We are staying at the Hilton on City Avenue. Would like to know what communities in this area offer the best restaurants, shopping and more of an upscale experience. We will have a car and don't mind driving. Looking at the surrounding communities of Ardmore and Narberth. The reason why we are in that particular part of Philadelphia is that we are going to the Barnes.
I really don't feel like driving into the city center this trip as our time is VERY limited. Thanks for any helpful advice.

Center City is less than 15 minutes from where you are staying and has the best restaurants and shopping. King of Prussia probably has even more shopping but mostly chain restaurants.

You can take Belmont Ave to Manayunk or Bala Ave to Montgomery down through BalaCynwyd to Ardmore and Bryn Mawr. Most of the resturants will be on Lancater Ave US 30, just under the railroad tracks.

The largest (yes I said the largest) and arguably most upscale mall complex in the USA is at King of Prussia. Get on I-76 and go west, past I-476 to 202 north or Mall Blvd. The mall is in between those exits. As someone said the resturants are all chains but there are many to choose from. (One of a kind and gourmet resturants are mostly in the city)

There's a Legal Sea Foods in KOP... that place is pretty good. I'm a fan of Persian Grill on Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill - that's a more unique option out that way.
