Job in King of Prussia - where should a single, active female live who likes the city? (Philadelphia: best neighborhoods, apartments)

I am considering a position in King of Prussia. Can anyone recommend a cool, hip area to live that is close to Philly.

Here are some things to consider:

1. Minimal commuting distance or easy commute
2. I'm single female in my early 30's with no kids. I would prefer an area that more single people as oppose to an area with mostly families and kids.
3. I love dining out and especially ethnic restaurants.
4. A diverse community if possible.

Some areas I have found on the Internet:

1. West Chester
2. Conshohocken

I would suggest Manayunk (pronounced Manny-unk).

You could also check and see if the 124 and/or the 125 bus goes to your place of employment. If so, you can take that from center city. It's about a 50 minute ride. But Manayunk would be my first suggestion, because it is closer to KOP.

West Chester wouldn't be a bad option. Its very convenient to KOP(5 miles) although its not that close to Philly(25 miles west of Philly- ).

West Chester has its own little thing going on. Its a college town so theres plenty of young people around, nice restaurants/bars/pubs/supermarkets etc low crime. Its definitely worth a look. West Goshen which is directly next to West Chester was just named one of the best neighborhoods to live in the USA by Money magazine.

The mainline towns might also be a good fit for you.KOP to the heart of the Mainline is less than a 20 minute commute Theres are about 10 universities and liberal arts colleges that run along the Mainline(route 30 heading west of Philadelphia through Delaware-Montgomery and Chester Counties). It tends to be a bit upscale. Plenty of stuff going on. A few of the towns along the Mainline Id recommend. In order from closest to King of Prussia. Malvern-Paoli-Wayne-Villanova-Rosemont-Haverford-Bryn Mawr-Ardmore-Narberth-Bala Cynwd.

Manyunk is good option.

Conshohocken seems to be getting better and better.

Chestnut Hill is a great neighborhood in NW Philly.

Center City imo is far and away is the best place to live if you are single and like a vareity of ethnic restaurants/shops. Great blend of tranquility and vibrancy although its not a cheap area to live. Daily commute to King of Prussia can be a nightmare .

West Chester is about 15-20 miles from KOP, not 5. I agree that WC Boro is a great little area. Also, I agree on Conshohocken and Manayunk. The Main Line (Villanova, Bryn Mawr, Wayne, etc.) is great but expensive.

Just checked mapquest and you are 100% correct. 18 miles. The distance seems somewhat closer to me as I can make it from KOP to WC in 10-15 minutes in non rush hour traffic via 202.

I second Wayne and also suggest Paoli.

West Chester is nice but the traffic isn't worth it.

You definitely won't be able to have everything on your list but you can have 2,3,and 4 if you decide to live in the city. I also love going to diverse restaurants, BYOB's and I love the city life. Unfortunately, you will have a longer commute but you probably should live somewhere that is suitable for your lifestyle.

You can find suburban areas to live that border the city which may shorten your commute time by 7-12 minutes. I would also suggset, if you choose to live closer to Philadelphia, to learn about the backroads as soon as possible, this can make your commute much more bearable, shorter and scenic.

I vote for Manayunk as well. I've lived there for 2+ years now since moving to Philly and I love it. It's safe, there are quite a few places to eat/shop on Main Street, there are lots of bars if you are into that, lots of people in their mid-later 20's if you are looking to meet friends, lots of young professionals, easy access to Center City, but also easy access to areas west of the city such as KOP/Conshohocken/etc. The other nice thing is that if you like to run/walk/bike/etc. at all, its so close to Kelly Drive and the towpath which are great.

I have good friends who are childless. They have remained in the city since we all went to college. They recently bought a place in East Falls. My wife has been to visit them already and she said it is wonderful. Makes her want to move back town. They got a great deal.

The husband works in Berwyn(close to King of Prussia) and says the commute is a breeze. There is a very active community of singles and couples. Lots of artists and the restaurant scene is growing. It is just a few miles from Manayunk.

I had a sister in law who rented a place in Manayunk for a year and all I remember is there was no parking when ever we went to visit. If you are commuting you will need parking. Keep it in mind that not every place has parking.
