I didn't live here long enough to see the difference. Neither was likely winning awards. I never really liked Delta much either until I flew on American a few times in a row and then flew Delta, realizing how terrible AA really is.

Nice article about Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran. They have created quite an empire.
Possibly not something you'd know about but it was developer, Tony Goldman, who had a grand plan and vision for that stretch of 13th. And, thank goodness, he found the perfect couple to help carry out his ideas of what could be done. Helped a lot that they're great at what they do!

Goldman died in 2012, btw.

But they kinda did with developer, Tony Goldman. It's all before your arrival in the city, I think.

But, agreed! Wonderful couple!

Developer Parkway renews effort to build apartment tower on Chestnut Street lot

The above ground parking lot ruins the project for me.

According to the interview in cpomp's link, they didn't partner with anyone. They saved and made purchases at the right time, renting at a time when the rent was lower due to the situation. They worked with others who rented or sold properties, but that's different than having an equity partner.

And all of it was before my arrival. I'm only going by what I'm reading.

New European flights out of PHL

”Come Monday, Philadelphia travelers will be able to book tickets for the four new European routes that American Airlines is introducing next year.

The airline announced this week that it's adding seasonal flights to Edinburgh, Scotland, beginning in April, and to Berlin; Bologna, Italy; and Dubrovnik, Croatia, starting in June — all out of Philadelphia International Airport.”

However . . .

“Before American launches the flights to the four European cities next spring, it’s canceling three other routes. Two seasonal flights will end as scheduled for the year, and won’t resume in 2019: service from Philly to Glasgow, Scotland, will stop Sept. 29, and service to Frankfurt, Germany will stop Oct. 27. A year-round daily flight from PHL to Munich, Germany, will end March 30.”

And further . . .

“Philly-based travel blogger Dom Perilli, who runs The Short Final blog, sees the added European flights as part of an extended boon for fliers using PHL: Aer Lingus started nonstop service to Dublin earlier this year; Icelandair introduced flights to Reykjavik in 2017; and Qatar Airways began offering flights to Doha in 2014.”

American Airlines betting on the future of the Philly-Europe connection

Overall, positive news.

Yes, and Lufthansa flies year round to Frankfurt so it’s not a total loss there.

Very positive for the region. Europe seems to be covered reasonably well by PHL at this point; the big prize would be long-haul, direct flights to cities like Tokyo, Beijing, Seoul or Shanghai.

I think that will be an eventuality with a fast-growing Asian-American population, but it's still been elusive thus far.

I would LOVE for a direct flight to Tokyo! I am surprised that they will be canceling the direct flights to Munich and Frankfurt.

It probably goes without saying that we are currently hindered by our proximity to NYC when it comes to flights to Asia. I do believe like Dude that it’s a matter of time before we land a route to Tokyo, Hong Kong or Singapore.

As to the Frankfurt, Lufthansa has a flight, so I guess AA just couldn’t find a market for a second flight. Munich is not a business hub, so apparently, not enough tourists are looking for a vacation in Bavaria.

Berlin is a relatively small capital, but is a city getting better by the day. Outside of Berlin, the other 3 cities are interesting choices. Glasgow is the business hub of Scotland, but a relatively small one. Edinburgh is certainly a more attractive tourist draw. Dubrovnik is pretty much solely visited by tourists. I don’t know enough about Bologna to comment, but it rarely comes up in conservations about Italy. AA obviously see a market, so time will tell. I’m encouraged that AA is testing secondary EU cities for PHL.
