It's two different developments. The lot actually facing Columbus blvd is a Giant Grocery store. It was suppose to have a 'super' Wawa next to it, but that was rejected by the zoning commission so not sure what the status of the southern portion of the lot will be.
Giant Secures Waterfront Site for Yet Another Philadelphia Store

ZBA rules against Blatstein’s Super Wawa proposal at Columbus and Tasker

The second development is 3 low-rise apartment buildings.
855 Units + Retail Planned in South Philly on the Delaware River

I saw the grocery store under construction a while back, but does it look like development behind the store is underway?

Got it, thanks. No clue what, if anything is replacing that previously-proposed Super Wawa. Also, not sure if they're begun breaking ground east of the Giant. In fact, now that I think back to last time I drove by, I don't think they have started anything east of the main structure. This would be SO typical Philly to have all that space and wind up with a stand-alone super market and a dozen acres of prime riverfront property sitting as empty lots for a decade. Sigh...

Lol. In a way, I am actually surprised they ditched the townhouses and opted for a 3rd apartment building.

I have heard Northbank, the very large townhouse development on the Delaware near Fishtown, is selling well. And in general there is so few houses on the market right now. I still have more faith in the Reed street development compared to 'The Liberty on the River' proposed development on the next block north of Reed and South of Washington: http://libertyontheriver.com/

I can't help but feel like that rendering is a bit of a fantasy.

Yeah, that proposal has been floating around for a while now. I would be surprised if it even ever got started with the basics like zoning and soil samples.

Well, guess we'll see where these all go - hopefully somewhere.

There is also a large apartment development underway further up on Delaware Ave across from the casino.

It's good to see *some* of these projects take shape.

Some more extremely positive news! This kind of news makes me very happy.

Philadelphia-area VC funding smashes annual record just halfway through 2021

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel...ng-record.html

"Philadelphia-area firms raised $3.1 billion in venture capital funding during the first half of 2021, already smashing an annual record set two years ago."

"The Philadelphia region has outpaced several competing regions in the first half of 2021. Companies in the Denver-Aurora, Colorado, combined statistical area and the Washington-Baltimore-Arlington combined area each raised $2.9 billion in Q1 and Q2, putting Philadelphia startups ahead. Philadelphia also outraised the Austin-Round Rock region, which brought in $2.4 billion in the first two quarters."

Yes, what helps investment to is proven return on investment. Area startups have been holding there own recently, with at least 3 crossing the billion dollar valuation in the last half year.

Fantastic trend for Philly (just read that GoPuff secured another $1 billion as of yesterday, too).

While these hard numbers alone are a very encouraging sign for local economic activity, what's more fundamental is it puts to rest the notion that Philly companies are incapable of attracting large outside investments (a huge reason that many had decamped for other regions in the past).

Good riddance to that malarkey.
