One thing different about this year's estimates is that south jersey is showing increases. For a lot of those positive Philly years, south jersey's population was shrinking. IMO, few places were hit as hard as south jersey was in the 08/09 crash. It took a long time for it to rebound

Disappointing news, but not surprising. With consecutive loses, Philly's population has dropped to the same level as 2014.
The last time I was in Philly was in the '90s with the Navy, and they were building the two blue skyscrapers downtown. Since then, they seem to have added several other very tall buildings, some even taller than the blue ones, which were the tallest in the city at the time. So as far as construction goes, Philly seems to be doing great, certainly greater than my town which is considered somewhat of a boom town (much smaller than Philly even after all the growth over past few years. Maybe the population has decreased in the city but more workers must be coming in from the suburbs.

Oh compared to past generations, Philly is in a far better position overall. The Navy Yard itself is in the process of being completely rebuilt after the Navy vacated it and is one of the most successful redevelopments in US History - https://navyyard.org/

The advent of the 'Eds and Meds' industry has injected a significant amount of life back into the city. It's one of the top biotech hubs in the US and is a top 10 venture capitalist destination which was not the case before. Comcast has arose as one of the biggest media/communications in the world. Vanguard has turned into an absolutely massive investment giant and one of the biggest financial services companies in the world. We got to keep the pedal on the metal though, because there's only two directions to go: forward or back.

We're about to have one of the biggest turnovers in the city's history on city council and a new mayor so we're all pushing our agenda lol

Few cities in the US can match Philly's skyline and overall urbanity

It's going to be pretty wild watching both towers on that block rise at the same time. It always felt like walking out of Rittenhouse Square, with all the activity, it could be more. awesome stuff.

This has been on the books for a while now. Hopefully it gets moving along ASAP.

The Chubb Insurance Bldg excavation at 20/Arch is well underway. This building looks like it will go up quickly; working Saturdays, at least currently, helps.

Very cool! I'm not aware of a publicly known coordinated effort to make the city look more vibrant and inviting at night with lighting features, but the City looks more impressive than ever at night due to the number of different lighting schemes being added in recent years. The Ben Franklin lighting is icing on the cake. These effects can be super engaging on social media as well.

Looks like Boathouse Row is also gearing up for a revamp, which will also make a big splash when complete:

Very cool but this is a high-speed video given it's too ''blinky-flashy''.

What would be really cool is a contrasting light-scheme tracing the PATCO trains as they cross the bridge. I see something moving along that area of the bridge but not sure what that is so that may already be there given the speed of this video.

Solid to decent timed color scheme changes would work with the former being preferred;again, this timed color changes may already be timed out decently. Many local and bldgs and bridges etc have a solid color or solid multiple motifs for different occasions etc.

I read about this happening last night but forgot to check this out.
