If the sixers arena and the vine st cap are done by 2035, I think we can say that at least some of the original objectives of the 25 year plan were met.

Is Chinatown freaking out about the Vine street cap?

That'll have a bigger impact on Chinatown than a new business on Market Street.

Freaking out?

This, I believe, is a public works project Chinatowners support, since it will suture over the gash the Vine Expressway tore through the neighborhood.

Redddog was likely implying that if Chinatowners are up-in-arms about the arena, it would only make sense for them to have a similar reaction to a cap that will surely lead to major changes in the area.

Yeah, agree. They seem to actually welcome this improvement as it should provide a much safer and easier walk for many of the Chinatown workers/shop owners to get to work. Many of them live north of Vine around that area. However, once again, it seems short-sighted for a city to allow a very small group of city residents to cherry pick the projects they "approve of" and vehemently protest those that they "don't agree with" for purely selfish reasons, even if these reasons are obviously anti-city growth and prosperity. Hopefully, it looks like both projects have a really good shot at moving forward. Couple that with the Penns Landing cap and we might actually have a vibrant and bustling center city east of Broad again. Exciting!

This is all good - especially considering there's no longer any crime!

A more inviting urban environment = more "eyes on the street" = less crime.

Yup to all.

And related to Market East, the Jefferson Tower & plaza at 12th & Chestnut is finally complete and the street has been repaved. This dreary block/corner finally looks fantastic.
This was the final phase of Nationals "East Market" plan. Now they are onto Northern Liberties and soon the Library / hotel project on the Parkway.

Count me as the one guy in this town that isn't all tingly about the Penn's Landing cap.

Penn's Landing is where you go if you want packs of teens to screw with you constantly. No cops, whatsoever.

The new park is going to be a newer, green space with punks running around without any consequences at all. And they missed the one opportunity they'll EVER have to cap Chestnut to Walnut, which is completely insane to me.
