There are advantages and disadvantages to both and most are directly related to lifestyle preferance, job, family, and personal circumstances. The same benefit in theory could be used in either location. End of the day it really comes down to the individual and what is prioritized

This would seem a straight-forward question. Generalizing, CC would provide better access to more cultural venues, a wider variety of restaurants, less reliance on automobiles and higher real estate costs. The suburbs typically offer larger and more affordable homes with yards and garages, easier access to malls and big box stores, and better schools. Commutes could be a wash depending on where one works. Remember, I'm generalizing so there are exceptions to what I've stated.

Is any of this a surprise? Is there something more specific you are trying to uncover?

Yep, Center City's advantages and disadvantages are pretty typical of high-density urban downtowns. As suggested earlier, your mileage may literally vary.

I enjoyed having a 10 minute walk to work, walking to shopping and entertainment, and not needing to drive or even take any public transit for weeks at a time.

Me too. But if you are going to be working in the suburbs and need a car, you may feel differently. In addition, if you work in the burbs and live anywhere in the city, you will have to pay the city wage tax.

City wage sucks. I live in center city and commute to the burbs, but it is bearable as i work from home a few days a week and on the road (so need a car for many trips to north Jersey and back) and only in the office 1-2 days a week. Also paying rent for a car is a pain but to me I enjoy the lifestyle of living in the city and being able to wlak and enjoy the energy it has to offer. I grew up half in the city and half in the burbs and also did the exurban subdivision with an acre. Truth be told there are positive aspects to all but for now am very content with inner city living and all that is at my fingertips...

The Inner City Energy is the major draw for me as well. The suburbs have many good things. But there is just something missing. Energy is missing from the suburbs.

I ask the question because i was trying to figure out what i was missing out on by living in the suburbs??

I work in the city so i would be paying the wage tax anyways!!

My guts tells me you know the answer to this question. If this is what you want, go for it. No decision is irreversible should your interests and circumstances change later in life.

There is definitely an energy in CC that is missing from most suburbs. Given your situation its worth renting in CC to see if the benefits outweigh the costs for you.
