I'm looking at school rankings and it seems like Dtown East high school consistently outperforms Dtown West. We are definitely going to be looking predominantly in the East section, mostly for my husband's commute but there have been some houses of interest that would still have a manageable commute in the West high school district.

What I'm curious is if, statistics aside, there is anything I should know about East vs. West. I know the West has an amazing soccer program. Is there anything else one school has over the other?

Do people regard one as markedly better (for whatever reason) over the other or do people view them as more or less the same?

If there are any particularly nice neighborhoods we should drive through I'd love to know of them.

thanks in advance!

Hello

The school stats for East and West are not that different -however, folks are pretty loyal to their own school. There is also the STEM academy that takes in students both from East and West. I am a Realtor in Downingtown and have 2 kids in Downingtown East schools - have lived here for 15 years.

The new STEM program is going to pull the best and the brightest kids from both schools so who knows how they are going to "share" these students in the statistics. Bottom line is both schools are great. We lived there for 10+ years with three kids. Pay attention to the elementary schools if you have young kids. They are not all equal. I highly recomend Shamona Creek Elementary.
