Buppie= Black urban professional/ Black Middle class person

<I have posted in the past, inquiring about center city>. From my research, it sounds like center city is great for a young professional, but is it great for a BLACK young, professional?

I am a black, professional woman who's looking to move out of where I currently stay. Philadelphia is on my list of cities I'm considering. I understand it is diverse but have been unable to find actual demographics for the area.

I want to live in an area that has a sizable number of black professionals. I have no problem with people of other races... I actually went to majority white schools and work in financial services (which is also majorly white... at least where I am). However, I am tired of always being the only minority face. I am also tired of the culture barrier, of always explaining myself and being looked at as different. It's hard for someone who's never experienced this to understand. For once I want to just be able to blend in.

Ideally, I'd want to be in a buppie neighborhood, but if I can't get that, be in a place that's diverse but extremely accepting of buppies. Any recommendations of neighborhoods where I can find this demographic is much accepted and please don't refer me to the hood lol.

I hope this does not offend anyone

In Center City? No. Not a very common thing in general, but East Mt Airy would probably be the closest thing to it in Philly.
Anyplace in Center City would be reasonably accepting, though.

I agree with rotodome. You'll be fine in Center City. Nightclubs and other social venues will be located there; depending on what you're into, you should be able to find a compatible scene. Check out citypaper.net and philadelphiaweekly.com for more info.

Default center city

As a young Professional I would rather live in Center city first.

If you're looking for black professionals join the urban league of philadelphia.

www.urbanphilly.com

Urban philly has the events

Live in Center city much better for young professionals.

Yes i have friends from other cities like Atlanta and Dc and i always point them to urban philly and the urban league

Philly isnt Dc or Atl but it has a very underrated population of Black Professionals.

You have to attend buppie events to meet other buppie here since there really isnt one particular hangout spot and since most actually live all over the city.

Buppie Events Natural hair events, jill scott private concert these events have many buppies.

Im Sorry i looked at your question again and realize i didnt really answer it

U asked where are the buppie neighborhoods in Center city.

There are no Buppie neighhoods in center city

Blacks are spread out all over center city

I have seen some buppies over in Northern Liberties. But there are a lot of Yuppies over there as well.

There are Buppies over in university city area who might work for upenn or drexel.

Northern Liberties, Washington square,University city are the areas i would try first in the city for buppies.

Mt airy, chestnut hill and other areas have some buppies as well but those are outside the city. wynnefield as well.

You will not find in Philly one majority buppie area with wealth like atl or dc. Its more spread out. You will find black poverty in a few concentrated areas. No different from any other city.

In Center City Washington Square, Market east area, Northern liberties, Spring garden would have higher percentage of buppies than rittenhouse or society hill.

Here a map with zipcodes

More Buppies probably live east of broad because rent west of broad is too high. However those that can afford the higher rents are probably higher income buppies but there are fewer of those.

Washington Square west is a really nice area u cant go wrong there. You might meet more yuppies than buppies though. look up rentals in the area using the zipcodes on the map

I'd say east of broad is also a bit younger as well. Center city is a mix of people not just in who lives there but also in who goes there. It isn't majority buppie but I doubt you'd feel out of place there. same with northern liberties and probably some parts of west philly.

Plug Philadelphia into the search on this map, then zoom in to take a look at neighborhood racial breakdowns.
