I'm moving to the suburbs of Philly from a younger, artsy part of town in south Florida and I'm hoping to find something similar in the area but so far, I'm not having any luck. I have friends in Bucks county and as lovely as the area is, I have my fingers crossed to find something a bit more... creative, but have yet to hear of anything that's not in the city.

The closest you might get to an artsy suburb might be Doylestown and New Hope. The crowd may not necessarily skew young, however. Media, West Chester and possibly Wayne might appeal to you for finding a confluence of 20-30somethings. Otherwise, Philly itself - particularly in the Center City neighborhoods is where you'll be able to most satisfy your artistic fix.

Then again, I'm most familiar with PA suburbs. Perhaps those with NJ experience have other thoughts?

I'd say Collingswood, NJ, and maybe Media, PA, but you're not going to find a Hoboken in the area, as there is no pressure on home prices to move these artsy neighborhoods outside of the city. Northern Liberties in the city proper is more of the "artsy" you're looking for to be honest. Most of the suburbs are family oriented. I live in Collingswood and I'm 28, but I can tell you assuredly that I'm the exception and not the rule.

West Chester was a good suggestion, though more of a college town than art mecca. Maybe you can help define what you like about the "artsy" neighborhood you're in now to help us clarify?

Well the town that I'm in now is like most young/hip/artsy towns, just far more relaxed than the crowd you would imagine in a place like Williamsburg. Artists, musicians, crafty ladies... that whole deal. I should add that I am in my mid 20's and have a career and not exactly looking for some college town where I can party every night. I'm just spoiled by having great local shows to go to every weekend and friends who are into the same things that I am and just don't see that whatsoever in the places that I've been to in the bucks/montgomery county area.
I appreciate the feedback that I've received thus far!

if you already like bucks county, then definitely look into New Hope. not a big town by any means, but has a nice downtown and is very funky with an artsy vibe to it.

Don't worry, there are no true "party towns" outside of Philly. West Chester may come the closest due to the proximity of its namesake state university.

It sounds like that you may have to decide what's more important to you: living amongst fellow creative types of all ages or living amongst fellow younger professionals.

Certainly a young professional area. I do love the areas that I've been to in Bucks which is why I plan on moving up, I just wanted to see if there was something closer to what I'm used to.
