kidphilly has given you two solid suggestions: 1) Parc for lunch (the location across from Rittenhouse Square is unique to Philly and the food, while not high end sophisticated, is still pretty good) and 2) Tullalah's Garden for dinner. Now for the 2nd lunch? You won't go wrong at Amis, Pumpkin, Audrey Claire or Barbuzzo, if they are open for lunch. We're still pretty new here, and still on our list to try are Armada and Farmicia, which are both frequently recommended to us. Since you are foodies, I'm assuming you also plan a stroll through Reading Terminal just to sightsee.

Enjoy your weekend!

JM RTM is always a pleasure, make it there far too infrequently. One other thought would be RTM and/or Dibrunos for a lunch but get it to go if the weather is good and do a picnic in the square. Some meats, cheeses, bread (and a bottle of wine (so long as somewhat discreet) or bubbly and a blanket in Rittenhouse) may be more special than any restaurant.

But on the whole I hope the OP enjoys.

Not sure if Amis, Pumpkin, or Audrey Claire do lunch but one other thought is 1682 in the Palomar which actually does a very good brunch (philly is a pretty big weekend brunch city on the whole) and makes a pretty good bloody mary

Keep us posted on your experiences and thoughts as you check out places in Philly.

^^^A stroll through RTM is a must in my book.

I just had lunch at the Bellvue earlier this week with a protester from Occupy Philly (the irony seemed lost on him). Three courses for $20: a great salad buffet, choice of entree (fish was superb), and a dessert buffet plus choice of drink. Food was quite good and the setting not too shabby either (balconies were open). I hesitated to recommend this as the OP seems interested in high-end dining, but may as well put it out there.

Now that is funny

And agree on the RTM - a real must see, even if just for the stroll but imagine most are inclined to make some purchases. More fun than most restaurants
