Joan Jett? She was born in the Philly area, but she moved away as a kid, and her music career at that time really took place in L.A.

I remember Tommy Conwell, but early 80's is a little before my time (as I was a pre-teen).

Great bands! I also remember the "John Cadillac band" and also "Quincy". Quincy was based in S.Jersey but played Philly all the time.

Tommy Conwell is overrated. The Hooters and Robert Hazard were great. I never heard the As music, but I know that Pierre Robert loved them, and they did make it onto one of the Rhino New Wave 80's compilations.

Thumbs up Make room for some R&B/Soul

Um... what about Gambel & Huff's whole roster of artists on Philadelphia International Records? O'Jay's; Teddy Pendergrast; Patti LaBelle; MFSB... rivaled only by Hitsville, USA (Motown Records) for R&B/Soul during the 60's, 70's AND 80's?

Loved going to the Empire Rock club at Cottman and the Blvd, or to the Cellblock on Rt. 13 just outside the city to see all the underground bands...
