Hi. We are thinking about making a move so I can work at Crozer in Delaware County. We lived in center city a few years ago and enjoyed it but now we have 3 young kids, oldest in kindergarten (private-ouch), so we are looking for a suburb. I've heard the lower merion school district is good but I am wondering if this is a reasonable commute?

I think the mainline areas look quite nice, although we are open to other areas. We are looking for a 5 bedroom house with a decent (1/2 acre) yard, close to some shopping (including whole foods or wellspring or something), hopefully with a lot of parks and green space. Any advice is appreciated!

A five-bedroom house on 1/2 acre (22000 sq ft) is not gonna be cheap in the Lower Merion SD.

But even so, I'd say get a RE agent working for you as a buyers agent, who is familiar with the LM SD areas, lay out your criteria (5BD, 1.2 acre, commute to Crozer-Chester, open space), and have them do all the research. That's how they earn their commissions.

And, read up on how the exclusive agency agreement is playing out these days, have an attorney knowledgeable in RE review any agreement with the agent/agency before you sign.

The best school district within good striking distance (10-15 min) of Crozer-Chester Medical Center is the Wallingford-Swarthmore district. Check Swarthmore, Wallingford, Rose Valley, and Nether Providence township (some of which has the 19063 Media zip code). Wallingford-Swarthmore School District
The RoseTree-Media school district is also highly regarded and would make a perfectly reasonable commute, though probably a bit longer. Check Middletown, Upper Providence, and Media boro. Rose Tree Media School District / Overview

Media has a really cute "downtown" area along State St with lots of restaurants, shops, and a Trader Joe's. Swarthmore also has a town center, but it's smaller. The area has lots of green space and parks including nearby Ridley Creek State Park PA*DCNR*-*Ridley Creek State Park

Good luck!

With traffic maybe... Realistically I would say you're probably looking at about an hour or so in traffic.

In my experience that is overestimated. In morning traffic, I can consistently make it to well south of Wilmington, DE in one hour.

I should say that we lived in North Wales at one point and my husband commuted to UPenn on 76 - very painful. We are really wanted to minimize the commute. What would you say the best school district is between lower merion, swarthmore, and media? I do want to check out Media as I've read good things on this board.

all those school districts are very good. they're not private schools - you can't rank them precisely (although many will try). i'd focus on location and price point. as said above, what you're looking for will be very expenseive on the mainline and why would you want to force yourself to have that commute anyway? Media and Wallingford-Swarthmore sound like good suggestions.

Lower Merion, but Swarthmore/Media are not far behind.
