Hey guys, I'm looking for a 1 bedroom apartment within 30 minutes from Einstein Medical Center. I would prefer a safe neighborhood, parking, washer/dryer in the unit, updated appliances, hardwood floors, reasonably priced. Like I said these are preferences, but I can certainly do without h/w floors and w/d in unit. I've looked around Roxborough, East Falls, Fox Chase, Huntingdon Valley, Chestnut Hill, etc. Any information regarding apartment complexes in these or other areas would be greatly appreciated.

You could live in Center City and take the Broad Street Subway line to the Olney stop. From there you would walk a mere few hundred feet to the Medical Center. Most neighborhoods in the Northwest will be rowhomes/some converted into apartments and very few apartment complexes. If you are set on the Northwest, you will most likely have to drive to work. There are not many apartment complexes that come to mind but someone who knows the area better might be able to tell you of more. One that comes to mind is the fairly new Dobson Mills in the East Falls neighborhood. Look into Manayunk as well.

Forgot to mention I'm looking for rent to be around $1200 at the most, with utilities included. I know I'm asking for a lot!

Old City sounds like a good place for that price IMO. If you live in Old city you could take the Market-Frankford Subway line to the free exchange at City Hall to the Broad Street line then get off at the Olney Station stop, no car needed! That would be my suggestion. The trip would probably be about a half hour.

All of the areas you listed are safe areas, though it might be difficult getting from some of those areas to Einstein in 30 minutes. You should have no trouble getting to and from Einstein using public transportation from the NE or NW. There are plenty of bus routes that stop at Olney Transportation Center.

One area you might want to look at is the Castor Gardens section of NE Philadelphia. I know that the 26 bus stops at Magee and Castor and takes you to Olney Transportation Center (which is very close to Einstein). The area north of Magee Ave and West of Castor Ave is a very nice area to live.

Another good area of NE Philadelphia you should consider is Lawndale. I know that the 18 bus runs along Rising Sun Avenue and will take you to Olney Transportation Center. You can check on Septa's website for more info regarding the bus routes.

I would advise you to be cautious around Broad and Olney at night. The area, especially around the transportation center, is sketchy at night to say the least.
