WTH does "Black" have to do with gentrification?

Not only that, but Philadelphia also has considerably less wealth than DC and Boston. A six-figure salary is pretty much standard issue in DC these days. In New York, most bankers are pissed when their bonus is less than $250,000. You don't meet nearly as many people (especially young people) in the Philadelphia region making that kind of money.

There are a ton of people in DC making more than they really ought to be. I know several lawyers working at "non-profits" who are earning six figures. "Consultants" for government contractors regularly make six figures. Recruiters at law firms regularly make six figures once they've been with the firm a certain amount of time. Many Hill staffers, if they can work their way onto a committee staff, make six figures. Many of the DCPS administrators earn close to six figures just a few years out of school. Then you have blue-collar jobs that pay very well. For example, employees for contractors such as EMCOR regularly make between $90K to $150K.

And I almost forgot the trust fund babies and independently wealthy people who fart around DC and Manhattan all day. I know a girl who works for a non-profit making about $50,000 per year, but her father is the president of an African country. She's helping to bring the median income in DC down, but that just shows that those statistics can't capture the true wealth in some cities. Yeah, her paycheck may only be $1300, but her W-2 doesn't reflect the $20K her dad pumps into her account every month.

There has been some gentrification in Center City section of Philadelphia, but it has along way to go before it can be taken seriously. I looking at you, Center City! My girlfriend lives in Center City, and I have deal with it. As for the rest of the city, forgettabouti!

If the boundaries of Center City extend past Snyder Avenue to the south, past Port Richmond to the northeast, up to Temple U. in the north, out to 50th Street in West Philly, and way out to parts of Germantown/Mount Airy, then your statement is correct. Otherwise you are clearly, quantifiably, objectively and demonstrably wrong.

2nd Ave? 31st Ave?

wat?

They're streets, not avenues. Generally when you want to refer to the boundaries of Center City you would say "Vine to South, river to river".

NYC has north/south avenues. Philly has north/south streets. Are you actually a NYC native?
