I had posted about this in another thread, but wanted to start my own thread to get some more advice.

I am considering moving to Doylestown, PA for a job in Horsham, PA. It looks like 611 is the best way to get to work, though I have seen some comments on this board that traffic is bad on 611. Now, I lived in NYC for 8 years, so when I hear "traffic is bad", I think parking lot on the street. I am wondering if people are just exaggerating because there is mild stop and go. I also ascertain from comments that the worst part of going south on 611 is getting onto 276, but I would be getting off before that.

I would normally be leaving Doylestown around 7:30-7:45AM, and leaving Horsham at 6:00-6:30PM to go home.

I am wondering how long these commutes would take. I know without traffic it would be about 15-20 minutes. Anyone have some helpful insight on how long my commute would be in the morning and night (and not just comments like -- the traffic is going to be a problem)....

Thanks!

All of the lights on 611 cause a big hold-up, but it shouldn't be more than half an hour max on a bad day.

I was going to suggest checking out the PennDOT traffic cameras in the area. Then I checked their site and they didn't have any cameras - that has to be a good sign. It can't speak directly to peak time congestion, but if 422, 202, 309, the Interstates and other major roads are riddled with surveillance and 611 isn't, that's a good sign. Yes, there are a lot of lights and you may get a 2 or 3-cycle delay sometimes, but it looks "not bad."

Thanks. I figured it was something like that. People who arent used to really severe traffic often times exaggerate. I go through the same thing with my in-laws -- my father in-law will be telling me how he avoids a certain area in NYS because traffic is so bad all the time, and I drive, and its just a matter of sitting at a traffic light or two.

1/2 hour, I can handle.

there are certain intersections that back up very badly. 611 and Countly Ln Rd is one of them. i live and work in that general area, but fortunately avoid 611 altogether. but that one light alone is likely to add 10+ minutes to your commute. given that it takes 20 minutes with no traffic, i'd assume it would take longer than 30 minutes during rush hour. i'd check it out yourself at the time you will be commuting to find out the real story. My guess is that it will be closer to 45 minutes.

Thanks. I would probably be getting off 611 at Kansas Road, so when I cross County Ln Road, it would be at Kansas/Keith Valley Road (due to the location of the job). Any idea how that intersection is?

around 8 o'clock is when traffic starts getting bad on 611 south. i would look up the new 202 bypass, as a possible back up.

If you're getting off up there it shouldn't be bad, especially that early in the morning/late in the evening. I know from my own commute, when you get down towards Blair Mill Road it starts to get pretty backed up.
