Hello everyone,

I have read in some posts that the Tinicum Township area (Essington, Lester, etc.) is not a good place for living. I'm looking for apartments in Delaware County, and I'm considering that area. I would like to know if you consider it not a good place for living because it is unsafe or it is too industrial or any other reason; or if it is not bad.

I will appreciate your help.

I'm a native of inner Delco and I think Essington is fine. It's gritty but everything near the waterfront is. Crime may be slightly higher than other areas but it gets worse the closer to SW Philadelphia/Eastwick you get. I would have no reservations living in the neighborhood by 420 and Industrial Highway. Lots of old school white families. That said, the area certainly is not glamorous and there's nothing to do there, but if you just need an affordable place to rest at night where you can still walk around at midnight (something like an aircraft pilot crash pad) it will work. That said, I'd look for something more toward Ridley Park, Ridley Township, etc. It's too isolated back there for my tastes.
