I have been researching Philly suburbs for about a month & my focus for great schools, proximity to airport for my husband's job, walkability, etc. always leads me back to Media, PA.

Would love input on the demographics of Media. Can't find any current info on my internet searches. 2000 census shows about 80/20 white/black ratio. We are a multicultural, biracial family. Living in a diverse community is very important to us. My husband is African-European (born in Congo & lived in France/Belgium) I am caucasian & we have a beautiful 5 year old daughter. Where we live in GA has a great mix of races & we want something similar in PA.

I have found many great suburbs in the Philly area with great schools but am dissappointed when I research the demographics.

Would really love imput on someone who lives there or frequents the area. Thanks!

Did you check Media borough's website? 2010 census information is available there. Unfortunately, you won't find much difference in the demographics you already found. If you want a multi-racial community, many of the Philly suburbs will not meet your needs. Not that I think you and your family would not be welcome in Media, but the demographics are what they are.

I, too, found demographic data on the Media borough web site. Check here:
U.S. Census Bureau - Demographic Information | Media Borough Pennsylvania Official Website
(Frankly, I was surprised these stats say it's near 82% white. I would have guessed that number was lower.)

I wouldn't be concerned about what the demographic numbers say (or, more to the point, don't say) about Media. I know several inter-racial (and a few same-sex parent) families in Media, and they seem happy. I've never heard anyone make any comments or remarks that would lead me to believe they (or their kids) are viewed any differently than any other "more demographically typical" families in the area.

It's a very nice place to raise kids. And though the statistics may not demonstrate diversity of race, I hope you'll find diversity of backgrounds, opinions, jobs, education, - maybe even restaurants - will make up for that.

Good luck!

The last page of this thread has some information on Media. I found out it isn't what I thought it was or where I thought it was.

Hello there. Did you end up moving to Philly? I moved from Georgia, to Asheville but am now planning to move to Philly. I am curious if you ended up there and what your likes/dislikes are of the area.
Thanks
