If anybody has any prior 4th of July in Philly experience, would you recommend going into the city for the day?

If so, are there any particular recommendations as to what to do?

With them expecting a crowd of 600,000 on the Benjamin Franklin parkway for the concert/firework display, do they bring in portable bathrooms?

Philly area is the very best place to be if you want to see fireworks. There are so many places in our area having displays, which are all excellent.. After all this is the 'birthplace' of the US

They do a big fireworks display on the Parkway. I think they do another one at the waterfront. I remember watching fireworks from the hill where the Society Hill towers are. Great spot to watch if they're doing it there again this year.

Yes there will be a huge concert on the Ben Franklin Parkway with The Roots and other musical artists as well as fireworks later that night.

Also I heard they're shooting the fireworks off from Sugarhouse Casino on the waterfront this year.. don't know if that is accurate.

Philly is the birthplace of the nation, you think the city wouldn't do anything for the 4th of July? Haha

My tip would be,try and take the train if you can. The traffic is a nightmare.

There will be lots of portable toilets as there always are for Parkway events, but are you willing to wait in line and share a bathroom with half a million + strangers ? OR, you could wait until Saturday, 7 July and go to a very less crowded Penns Landing for a great fireworks display over the Delaware. Not free, but you could substitute the Parkway concerts for a much mellower Coldplay at the WFC on 5 and 6 July.

People seem to forget that there are tons of hotels and public facilities in the area. Hidden bathrooms abound. Of if you're an alumni of any of the schools with buildings downtown, private, hidden bathrooms abound!

True, but can you imagine the reaction if 500 people lined up outside of the lobby bathrooms at the 4 Seasons, or the other hotels on/near to Parkway?
