Yardley, Newtown and Langhorne are all relatively nice. Langhorne lacks the "hip" feel that you're looking for, but it is less expensive than the other options and close to highways so you can get into Philly or Princeton in about 30 minutes, New Hope in about 20.

On the New Jersey side I recommend Lawrence Township, Florence Township, Hamilton Township, or Trenton if you can find a nice area there. All these areas are between Philadelphia, and Piscataway, and are all near the major Interstates, and highways for easy access anywhere in the region.
I've done the commute between Torresdale and New Brunswick in 1 hour 10 minutes, although I took I-95 to Route 1 into New Brunswick. I'm using that as a working number since they're practically right next to each other. I don't use the Turnpike, so the commute may be shorter that way, but OP might not want to pay tolls. Also, I'm a pretty conservative driver, so others would probably find they can do the commute in less. I know some guys on this board have real lead feet given the numbers they post for commute times

Midway point is around Princeton. How much more "trendy" can you get then Princeton?

Yeah, I would think that Lambertville would be the no-brainer here.

If it were me I'd ask if they had space for rent at the Riverhorse Brewery!
