REALLY nice!!! Ya know, when I was in grad school, I remember reading the historian Mumford saying that Philly was one of THE most perfectly constructed cities in the country.

Those are some amazing pictures. I can't wait to see what the Schuylkill will look like in 10 or 20 years. I think it could be one of the most beautiful, most European rivers in the world.

The views you get along the river as you enter the city along I-76 are really spectacular. People coming into the city along that route really must know that they've arrived somewhere special when they go around the curve in the river at Girard, under the arches of the railroad bridge like a gateway to some medieval capital, and see the skyline open up as they come around to the other side.

That view never gets old. It's beautiful.

To the OP -- very nice pics.

It makes up for one of the most poorly-constructed main highways in the country.

Digging those pics, especially the first one because you can still see Billy Penn.

They're just two different skylines really. Philly's is more an East Coast, urban skyline whereas Pittsburgh's is more scenic and designed to look a certain way. Pittsburgh in general to me is like a more urban version of Seattle. If it weren't for the Schulykill River, there wouldn't be anything much scenic about pictures of Philly's skyline. It offers a viewpoint of the city and skyline that you can't get unless you're in the city. The problem is that the scenic aspect ends the further south you travel along the Schuylkill.
