N.Y.'s Bloomberg Calls Out Philly on Murders | NBC 10 Philadelphia

Bloomberg was responding to a New York Times editorial that suggested the Big Apple institute a stop-and-frisk policy more similar to the plan supported by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.

"Philadelphia is a great city but it has the highest murder rate of any of the 10 largest cities in the country," Bloomberg said. "And the number of murders is going up."

As of the end of the day Thursday, there were 140 homicides reported in Philly -- up 11 percent from the same date last year."
So that's how he feels, huh...

Well, I didn't think the stop-and-frisk policy was ever implemented here, was it? So why is the editorial suggesting NY implement a policy that Phila. doesn't even have?

Actually, I thought that NY DID implement such a policy, which is why their murder rate went down under Bloomberg.

Old news, and remarks were taken slightly out of context for a more sensational headline in Philly local news.
Yes, New York DOES have a stop and frisk policy, which has been very controversial. The Times called him out in an editorial, suggesting he institute stop and frisk reforms similar to ones that occurred in Philly. And so he responded to defend the NYC policy, which he believes in. It's not like he went out of his way to slam Philly out of the blue.

Probably more of a response than anything else to the small but steady "leakage" of people moving from there to here.

I don't really get offended by those remarks at all.
I do think this: He as a mayor of such a large city should understand crime. Philly is not a small city, he should realize that large cities have large problems.

Basically Philly needs to call in new people to fix the problems. The people who are in charge can't handle things anymore.

By the way Mayor Bloomberg was talking, I wonder how much different would the crime rate be in Philly if he was mayor of the city instead of Mayor Nutter.

End of the day and even if focused on worse areas there is far too much crime in Philadelphia. To not accept this as fact is burying ones head in the sand. I ddont know the context of the comment so wont comment though in general dont get the sense the Bllomberg would take a pop shot just to make one

Crime, Poverty, Public Schools, and Corporate Tax Structure are very real issues Philadelphia faces and has not effectively dealt with to date.
