Over Thanksgiving weekend, I will be traveling from Upper Merion to Ohio, which takes me clear across I-76 to I-70 into West Virginia.

Has anybody had any experience traveling the Wednesday before Thanksgiving along this route? We would probably be traveling right during the peak traffic, leaving around noon Wednesday.

Without traffic, Google Maps is showing 5.5 hours (330 miles). I am guessing I should expect on at least 1.5x that time?

once you are on the PA turnpike (I-76) you'll be fine, getting to the turnpike will be the hardest part.

Look for congestion on I-70 past New Stanton, where you exit the turnpike to continue onto I-70. The road is old and narrow and winding, with lots of trucks, occasional 45 mph speed limits, and plenty of outdated and inadequate exit/entrance ramps. There may be some construction still.

Watch out around Washington, Pa., because the residents use I-70 as their main street, and don't bother getting up to highway speed as they meander from exit to exit.

Taking I-470 around Wheeling will save you exactly 4 minutes on your travel time; it plops you back onto I-70 at St. Clairsville, Ohio. Once in Ohio, keep your eyes peeled for the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Safe trip!
