There's a place on 50th and Baltimore called VIX Emporium that sells a limited number of silver items and costume jewelry but that's it.

I am talking about University City, where rents can be $3000 a month or houses sell for $500K or more.
University City isn't there yet.

There used to be one right on Penn's campus: University Jewelers in the 3400 block of Walnut. They were originally in the block of stores that existed at 38th and Walnut before Huntsman Hall was built. They were a terrific resource because they carried everything you are taking about, plus Penn sealed items, and did repairs. Prices were very reasonable. But they were a true Mom and Pop/family outfit and when either Penn raised the rent of the younger generation didn't want the business it died. Shame.

Your best bet is to just go to Jewelers Row in CC.

See my post. There was a jewelry store. Penn, in all likelihood, made it impossible for it to continue.

University City would thrive off of more national retailers like Banana Republic, J Crew, Antropologie, H&M, etc

Jewelry not so much.

Snap Kitchen by my apartment was opened yesterday.
It was interesting.
So you bought the food in a package. They had microwave there where you can heat the food.
There is limited seating where you can eat the food.
Kinda like wegmann's frozen section.

A jewelry store thrived there for decades. But, you're not feeling the love for stores which might actually have value to residents other than millenials. Urban Outfitters started in UC...well, you know that, I'm sure.

Depends on the jewelry store I guess. A mom and pop shop may do better further west, but a David Yurman type would do better right by Penn/Drexel due to the deep pockets of students.
