How about the DAFFY building?
Atlantic Building still under construction. I believe Daffy's building is seeing a bidding war between Forever 21 and some undisclosed second prospect (believed to be Nordstrom).... but no further news has surfaced.

However, looks like the Walgreens planned for the old Borders space at Broad and Chestnut is nearing completion. Ulta beauty flagship on Walnut is nearing completion as well.

Are Nordstrom department stores in downtown locations? Unless its a Nordstrom Rack, but I will not take that as a suitable solution for Philly needing another department store. We need a full Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, or Neiman Marcus ASAP, no off rack discount versions.

The daffy's retail space is eight stories and has over 100 thousand square feet of retail space. From what I've read the owner of the space is looking for a tenant that would fill the entire space so that would mean that if a Nordstrom's came there it would likely be a regular Nordstrom's not a Nordstrom Rack.

I'm having trouble seeing a high-end department store filling 8 stories at the old Daffy's. In every city I've been in, the model is to "spread" over lots of space on each floor so the shopper won't feel cramped but will have room to roam (think DT Macy's 1st floor). The Daffy's space doesn't speak "high-end" to me. I'm happy to be proven wrong - I'm just not placing my bets on it.

Don't disagree. The space however is way too big for a Nordstrom rack. My top guess is neither will occupy the space but I really couldn't see a Nordstrom rack in a space so large. It will probably just be a forever 21 or whatever.

What did the Barnes & Noble at the Gallery used to be? You can see a picture of it here: Barnes & Noble - Downtown, Philadelphia PA

So many department store chains have been in Philly over the years, among them Sears, JCPenney, Macy's, Boscov's, Strawbridge's, Hecht's, Wanamaker's, Gimbels, Lord & Taylor, Montgomery Ward/Wards, Lit Brothers, etc. So could this store have been any of those? I also know there once was a Food Fair/Pantry Pride supermarket in Center City decades ago, so perhaps this was it. Or could it have been an A&P/Super Fresh that was later "replaced" by the one on South Street?

I am fairly sure that it was not any kind of large scale chain retail prior to being a Barnes & Noble location.

(Also, that's Rittenhouse Square, and obviously not at the Gallery!)

Thanks so much, I appreciate it. On another topic, the Macy's in downtown Houston closed last month, and opened as a Foley's (owned by Strawbridge's) around the same time as the Strawbridge's/Macy's at the Gallery. So I hope this doesn't mean the Macy's here is closing too.

It's more likely that Macy's owns that store (as these days they own Strawbridge's, Lord & Taylor, and most other department stores that are not named Saks), and is just switching names around for whatever reason.

Actually Foley's, Strawbridge's, and Kaufmann's are all long gone, since 2006. Nothing is left of any of them.
