Philadelphia has made it, lol.

But seriously, Equinox, the new AMC, Primark, etc.

Very impressive changes happening all at once.

Also, the old Weston Fitness space at 18th and Market is turning into a Planet fitness. So many new fitness options in Center City.

I'm a little dismayed that inquirer.com has covered a number of PREIT mall news in the past (several on Moorestown mall restaurant changes and much smaller changes there), but has no story on the closure of the South Jersey Lord & Taylor department store. I'm not surprised though with the closure, but it missed the radar of the Inquirer that should have covered it.

There is history that the store was built there, with a new Strawbridge's (from its new owners May Co.), there when the previous mall owners were originally targeting a much greater expansion with a Nordstrom, but Rouse Co. winded up purchasing Moorestown in 1997, so that it could contain it and keep Cherry Hill the premier mall without the competition.

Google search also results in no article from Courier Post of Cherry Hill either, but there articles from September from patch.com, Burlington County Times, and coverage all the way up from News 12 NJ from Edison NJ though. The closure was actual part of the plan with the sale of the chain.

Lord & Taylor to close at New Jersey mall; Planet Fitness to ope

Perhaps it made it up to News12 because Lord & Taylor was a NYC area based chain. It is closing in Woodbridge Center in Central/Northern NJ too.
I wouldn't put too much faith in the Inquirer... But it is sad that L&T is a disappearing department store. With the closure of Moorestown that leaves just 2 left in the region (King of Prussia and Bala), and roughly 40 stores left in their entire portfolio.

Additionally their are more neighborhood fitness options beyond CC which I see as another positive sign.

Bala, afaik, is the oldest Phila. area location. Been there from as long ago as the 60s. It may actually be one of L&Ts first branch locations outside of NYC.

Looks like Govberg is moving to the Under Armour space, All Birds is replacing Timberland and Rescue Spa is replacing Barney’s.

I think it may be older than that even: I believe the Bala-Cynwyd Shopping Center, which it anchors, dates to the mid-1950s.

Awesome news. All Birds is an awesome store, hugely popular in New York.

Good article.

That new Govberg is really going to stand out and add some flair to Walnut St. considering the retail space it will occupy is on the corner and has massive windows. It will definitely elevate the 'luxury' sense of Walnut with its window displays.

The current location, is not nearly as noticeable, just a few store fronts down.

I had a feeling Timberland was closing, when I first saw the lease sign. It sort of is a dying brand that was very popular in the 2000s, but has fallen out of style. IMO

Definitely a good use of space for the old Barney's as well. As Rescue Spa is considered to be quite the place. ($300 facials)

I am curious what will be going into the old Zara space on Walnut. The lease sign has been taken down.

Also I do hear that Zara is moving to FDP. It just has yet to be announced.

At least these types of stores provide good foot traffic, the one in New York is always busy.
