Hopefully sometime before the end of this decade, the Nordstrom Rack can be replaced by a Nordstrom. Once Center City Philadelphia gets a Nordstrom, then it'll instantly be considered one of the premier big-city shopping districts, especially since Louis Vuitton will likely follow. (Wherever Nordstrom goes, a Louis Vuitton goes soon thereafter.)

True. But for now, I am just glad that some of the vacant buildings are occupied, some by national / international renowned brands.
It is an eye sore I have to see everyday as I am walking to the train station to go to work.

Rumors of a possible Neiman Marcus Last Call coming to Chesnut Street.

Not as good as a Neiman Marcus, but this would still be a great addition to the Center City retail scene, if actually true....

Just came back from some errands and noticed Banana Republic is opening a store in the 1900 block of Chestnut. Should provide a nice shot of energy to that block. Does anyone know if this means they are closing their outlet on South Broad & Walnut?

While I'm talking the 1900 block of Chestnut, what's up with the re-purposoing of the Boyd Theatre? It's still an eyesore and doesn't appear any work at all has started.

The Banana Republic store on Broad & Walnut is a retail store. The one opening up on 19 & Chestnut is a factory outlet.

Can't wait

Since the Friends of the Boyd website hasn't been updated with any news since last Spring that's a good question.

As nifear said, this is a Banana Republic Factory store, similar to a discount/outlet store where the one at Broad and Walnut is a full fledged Banana Republic store... and they will not close it.

Funny that you mentioned the Boyd Theatre, as an article was just posted about it in the Philadelphia Business Journal. It mentions that iPic is still planning to redevelop it into a theater, and Pearl Properties has now bought the property. They are the ones planning the highrise to replace the vacant buildings and empty lot next door to the Boyd. They also developed the Sansom and the Granary.

Coming to Broad Street near South Street in 2015:

BIG GAY ICE CREAM

It started out as used Mr. Softee Ice Cream Truck cruising the streets of New York's Greenwich Village and Chelsea a few years ago, but was so popular the partners who started "Big Gay Ice Cream" opened their first shop in Manhattan, and then a second one. Their logo is an ice cream cone with the ice cream in striped rainbow colors. Now the partners who started this business are opening shop next year in Philly and also in LA. They are known for their homemade seasonal flavors.
