Sugar Factory chain to open Philadelphia restaurant with 'insane milkshakes,' celebrity-designed cocktails

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel...ant-space.html

Popular restaurant chain Sugar Factory is coming to Philadelphia at 1216 Chestnut Street. I would never go, but I'm glad to see a solid addition to the 1200 block of Chestnut, which is dreary at best these days.

That sounds like the space that Smith (Brickwall/Porta) had occupied pre-pandemic. Glad to hear someone's taking it over with an eye on putting it to use again as an eatery/drinkery.

LOL, couldn't agree more with this post. I am happy that it is happening but I would never want to go there.

Update for KoP...

Van Cleef & Arpels opening a full boutique in 2022. Another extremely prestigious retailer joining the lineup.

Looks like Citizens Bank is coming to the old Banana Republic space at Broad & Walnut. How many banks do we need!?

I don't mind that bank so much...they're moving from 1417 Walnut which will open up a beautiful space for (hopefully) a better retailer. And they're only taking half the space fronting Broad which is a tough sell for clothing stores.

Some bad news: Barbour is closing on Walnut St, just heard from a friend who works there. It's shocking how many stores Walnut is unable to retain.

Gotcha, I didn't know Citizens was moving.

And that sucks about Barbour. I was on Walnut Street last weekend and there was so much foot traffic and even the more expensive stores (Rag & Bone, Tiffany's, Theory, etc.) had several people inside.

I don't understand the closures at this point, but maybe it really is entirely rent related. The big question I have is that if these stores did good business they would re-open in a cheaper nearby space? I see it all the time in New York, a retailer "closes" then re-opens down the street 6 months later.

Marc Jacobs coming to KoP. Ugh, I can't wait for the day when I can announce an exciting store coming to Philadelphia.
