That would suck to lose 2 longtime quality retailers in the city.

And Design Within Reach choosing Ardmore over Center City is another typical retailer move, "opening a Philadelphia store" in the burbs.

But I am glad they chose Ardmore over KoP.

I'd imagine both Brooks Brothers and Allen Edmunds are feeling the brunt of much less in-office/formal meeting types of activities going on. A real shame nonetheless, but I guess not terribly unexpected.

Hopefully more online retailers continue to make the jump to brick-and-mortar for "experience" retail. Walnut Street needs a strategic revamp to become a destination for that.

FWIW, DWR's original Philadelphia store was in the 1700 block of Walnut Street, in that row of houses-turned-shops that got torched on George Floyd Weekend. I think the company lasted about two years in that location.

Apropos of nothing, but IMO the real masters of "design within reach" are Target and IKEA.

Target actually does call its approach to making and selling things "Design for All." I support that idea enthusiastically.

Ah, interesting. That was a petit showroom.

Agreed. And I chuckle when I hear the name "Design Within Reach" since the price points are out of reach for 90% of the population. All about name interpretation.

You have noted that I usually refer to the company as Design Beyond Reach, haven't you?

Looks neat. I'm all for stuff like this. Creating things to do is an important aspect of being a well-rounded place to visit. Kids don't want to just go to museums and out to dinner.

^ Good to see. A nice concept for visitors, families, and just general fun. And it will fill a huge vacancy along Chestnut Street.

Also, J. Crew just re-opened on Walnut (moved from Liberty Place).
