That hole is the big missing link and sad reminder of 2020. I hope something happens there soon.

What have you heard about Williams Sonoma? Are they definitely reopening?

Per the rumor mill, they are looking to re-open in the Rittenhouse area. They didn't close by choice, their lease was up and the Bellevue is undergoing an overhaul.

I think that a lot of people don't know how often that is the reason for a store closing — either that or a huge hike in the rent that leads the store owner to balk.

Giant at Broad & Spring Garden is officially open. Another great new amenity on N. Broad.

New Giant supermarket opens on North Broad, bringing local goods and groceries to a fast-developing stretch

Sounds like two less diners. When Petrogiannis takes over a diner, the food goes downhill (although, the chicken matzoh ball soup at the Country Club is still pretty damn good).

I miss little Pete's ...

After 73 years in Wissinoming, the steak shop formerly known as 'Ch*nk's' is closing. Neighborhood's pretty lousy now, he made the right move opening a location in fishtown.

Looks like Express Edit is coming to Walnut Street.

It's a smaller format type store.

Good to see more legitimate grocery stores in areas outside of Greater Center City.

Grocery Outlet opens in North Philadelphia, first business to open in new PHA development

https://www.inquirer.com/food/grocer...-20220728.html

After studying engineering at Morgan State University, Donta Rose went to work designing stores for Grocery Outlet, a California-based discount franchise rapidly expanding into the Philadelphia area.
He saw the list of future stores and noticed that one would open at 21st Street and Ridge Avenue in the Sharswood section of North Philadelphia.

I'm a fan of Grocery Outlet — the Overstock.com of supermarkets.

All but 27 of the company's more than 400 stores are located in the Pacific Coast states, Nevada and Idaho.

25 of those are in Pennsylvania, plus one each in New Jersey (South Jersey suburbs of Philly) and Maryland (outside Hagerstown). The company entered the Keystone State via its acquisition of an in-state chain, Amelia's Grocery Outlet, in 2011.

It's the only one of the deep-discount grocers to carry an extensive selection of natural and organic specialty foods (in a section labeled "NOSH" — Natural, Organic, Specialty, Healthy). And like shopping at an off-price outlet or surplus store, you need to go there often — and if you see something you like at a ridiculously low price, stock up on it, for it may not be there on your next trip. (They also sell a full line of fresh produce and meats at prices competitive with traditional supermarkets.)

I may have railed against the way the PHA was carrying out its redevelopment plan for the area around the former Norman Blumberg Towers housing project (it pulled a bait-and-switch when, in the middle of the planning process in which the neighborhood was supposed to be a partner, it let slip via a map the fact that it had already planned everything out), but I will give them good marks for execution since then. Ridge Avenue in Francisville is now just about totally rebuilt, and I anticipate the renewal will continue up the avenue as well, helped along by this.
