And no, last I heard there were ongoing insurance disputes, but potential plans for a mid-rise tower are in early works?

I think this spot would be good for a high-end hotel, awesome location, added foot traffic, not many hotels basically on the square.

It is good to see retailers trickling back to Walnut (and Chestnut)... J. Crew, J. Crew Factory, Aritzia, Faherty, and many others, but that burned out hole is embarrassing for the entire stretch.
MPK wasn't seriously suggesting a Floyd Memorial. He's trolling.

I heard the issue was that the facade would have to be essentially reconstructed and the cost was something the developer wasn't down with.

Not trolling; it's a legit issue, why doesnt Philly have a prominent monument to Mr Floyd...the most profound loss of life in the civil rights struggle since MLK's 1968 assassination? Perfect place would be a prominent location in Philly's CC/retail district.

There's a developer for this site?

I think actually fighting racism and police brutality, advocating for better police training in minority communities and demilitarizing the police would be more beneficial than a virtue signaling George Floyd monument. I doubt the last thing George Floyd was thinking as he lay on the ground, unable to breath and near death was "I hope they build a monument of me in a park after I die". We should honor his life and avenge his death by our actions leading to legit systemic change, not by our words or by building meaningless monuments

That parcel of Walnut Street is too valuable to devote to a park of any type. I look forward to seeing what kind of commercial development comes out of it.

As for Mr. Floyd, I believe any considerations for permanent tributes to him should be left to Houston and Minneapolis, the cities where he was raised and had his life ended, respectively.

Tweb66 to the rescue..again! lol

Who is mocking anyone; you're emotionally triggered...yet again. ''1 entry level cop''?

I'm advocating that the Walnut Street Floyd lot should be utilized in some form and a G Floyd memorial etc is appropriate given that George Floys is reason why the lot was created.

Gee, can't think of anyone who would, while dying think ''i hope they build a monument of me in a park after I die'...what a bizarre off the wall statement. I guess it's ok though for virtue signaling to tear down a local mayor's statue/memorial though...

The Walnut Street lot on Philly main retail street needs something, even if temporary until this hole can be developed.

unable to breath? who was that?

Besides, memorials are for future generations to learn about the past...at least some memorials that is. Someday people will wonder who G Floyd was and what happened to him. A prominent, even if temporary memorial on Walnut Street in the hole created during ''protests'' of his ''murder'' is appropriate. A permanent location could be found later ie city hall/dilworth park.

Even a temporary park would help this block as any future commercial development could be a long way off. The Floyd incident created this hole so even a temporary park/memorial would work.

As for the misplaced logic about Minneapolis and Houston, then MLK's memorials etc should be limited to Atlanta and Memphis. Mr Floyd is just one level below or equal to Dr King as civil rights martyrs after all.

Really, that's your response? LOL, go home. So pathetic, clear sign you have nothing to actually say.

No one actually thinks you are being serious with the Floyd monument. You aren't that clever, or clever at all for that matter.

Actually, the part you quoted is the opening statement of my response. Really, you aren't that clever.

Yet, I do have something to say: place a George Floyd Memorial on the hole created because of his drug overdose death; makes perfect sense to honor a man compared to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in a high profile location on Walnut Street. It will attract locals, visitors, tourists etc to the area.

If you don't like this, ignore, move on, and don't become so emotionally unhinged. Geez
