You don't get to say "move on" after injecting politics, in the worst possible way, into an otherwise apolitical, productive thread. As for being partially quoted, what was "dweeb" out of context? Come on, you know that was a cheap shot, and a really bad one at that. Though I am sure there are some 2nd graders that think that is funny. I can appreciate a good troll if its clever and witty. You however, totally failed on that.

There's a developer for this site?

I'm advocating that the Walnut Street Floyd lot should be utilized in some form and a G Floyd memorial etc is appropriate given that George Floys is reason why the lot was created.
Come now. That opening sentence of your first post just drips with sarcasm. I can think of several more significant deaths, including several from natural causes or old age, between those two.

George Floyd's killing was the triggering event for turning those buildings on Walnut Street into smoking ruins, but it wasn't the reason — it was an excuse people with other agendas used to engage in their preferred means of advancing their goal. Just like looters use a riot as an excuse to "get paid."

Not quite. Although we all know the right-wing logic that fighting protesting against racism = looting/property damage.

Get this, I know it will blow your mind: not everyone in Center City during the BLM protests were actually there for BLM. Some people actually exploited a situation because they had nefarious intentions and could care less about George Floyd. They were comprised of looters and anarchists.

Who knew that not everyone in the same place at the same time have exactly the same intentions and beliefs?! Crazy right?

Must say it's quite unsightly; big fenced off overgrown, gaping hole sitting there.

Someone has to step in and develop this lot soon or at least get it cleaned up. It's beyond embarrassing for the city...but justified in the eyes of many.

Perhaps a George Floyd Memorial Park? The city should construct a public memorial in a high profile location for Floyd as a mural out in a neighborhood ain't cutting it. Maybe include some free pop-up retail stands for POC business owners etc.
That large ugly pit on Walnut Street is an absolute disgrace!! There was an article in Sunday's Inquirer about all the new stores that are about to open on Walnut Street. I was hoping there would be something about the burned-out lot, but it was hardly mentioned. Blocking the view of that ugly hole would do more to beautify Walnut Street than all the new stores combined. How about an attractive mural on a temporary fence---or something?

I can't believe that eyesore of a lot has been allowed to fester this long.

Consider how many years the former Three Girard/One Meridian Plaza stood half-burnt-out while the insurance companies and property owners/investors haggled over who would get compensated for what after that spectacular fire.

That opening sentence was lifted from the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign. GF was after all elevated to the level of MLK Jr significance...at least from 5/30/20 to 11/7/20 that is lol.

Yes, thank you for confirming that Floyd's death was manipulated by people with other agendas (ie BLM/Antifa etc) to engage in their preferred means of advancing their goal, including our current DA. Although by the time the Walnut Street buildings were torched another element was there as well

The lot is an embarrassment though and despite alleged on-going insurance disputes, some kind of temporary fix is needed. Even a block fence would work. A poster upthread rationalized that he thought it looked like a construction site. This lot is an overgrown litter strewn open air dump; the toilet laying on the rear of this site is real classy...the theme from Sanford & Son should be piped in here.

Well at the least the buildings on the Floyd lot were torn down while these insurance claims are being hashed out.

It took 15 years from the fire to the Ritz Residences groundbreaking.

We're 2 years+ in since the arson fire on Walnut Street. A much smaller scale site and structures but litigation etc can take years.

That was my suggestion but named the civil rights martyr for the mural or memorial, even if temporary. After all the city is full of historical memorial plaques.

Even a temporary pop-up park with open air pop-up retail for local POC business owners (black, hispanic/latino, asian) at no charge. Fits in well with the retail them of the street and it's a good mix from some of the bland cookie cutter retail on the street.

Have the city foot the bill, there's plenty of Federal $$ floating around and equity is the #1 priority after all.

Logistical issue, the lot is not level, it was demolished down to the foundation. Seems like a waste of time and city money for maybe a year or 2 of use?

Paint the party walls on the adjacent buildings (they look awful), and install an 8'+ decorative fence along the sidewalk that says something like "Excuse our appearance, exciting development underway!". At least it would show people that the city / retail district organization gives a s*** about appearance.

A good use of city time would be to put pressure on the situation. They should also do that for the Jewelers Row lot and Disney hole lot. But that means city leaders would need to care about QOL issues.

Yes, anything..excuse our appearance, exciting new development coming/underway. If there is one the city is good at it's b^llsh!tting. Oh, and wasting $$...give the owners etc some free $$ for temp use, everyone else is getting hand-outs these days.

Require that the owners hire a POC or female owned company to do the work and get this space in shape and create equity.
