Back to Cheesecake Building.
It is confirmed that Cheesecake is opening on june!
Cheesecake Factory sets its opening in Center City

I still hope that the first floor is not occupied by Verizon. Here my fingers crossed.
(I also hear that across the street in the corner will be occupied by At &T).
Come on, this is prime retail area. Can we please not to have more phone stores?

goodness gracious... Two of the best corner spots taken up by phone stores.

In my dream world I pictured a large Hugo Boss Store in the Cheesecake building, and maybe a John Varvatos, J Crew Mens or even the return of Burberry in the other corner.

It amuses me to always hear these developers and owners of these buildings making statements in Philly Mag or Business Journal saying they are seeking out top national tenants for these prime locations, and they bring us Verizon and ATT...........................

I think the most impressive retailers to join CC recently are Theory and Vince, we need more high fashion brands and designers like them

Correcto.
Well to be fair, the AT&T is still rumor.
And if you look at that Cheesecake bldg, well the 1st floor is quite large. IF Verizon really goes there, I highly doubt they will take the whole space. I mean I am comparing it with the size of three T-mobiles stores in the area. Unless they want to have say three independent Verizon stores in the first floor.

My dream will be Benetton or even Sisley, Commes de Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto in Cheesecake Bldg.
And across the street diagonally WHICH I COULD SEE THEY START RIPPING OFF THE FACADE (either that or I never paid attention to it before), it is the right size for either Desigual or AllSaints (Spitalfields) - rememember y'all they drop the 'Spitalfields'.

And of course in LA Fitness bldg, it is still rumored that Under Armour is coming.

PS: I can start seeing your type of style now.

Neither have had those logos for all that long. I'm not that old, and I remember when Macy's logo used to have serifs.

edit: I just did some checking at logos.wikia.com , and it appears that Macy adopted a version of the current logo in 1986, while May adopted it in in the 70's. So....a mystery!
Thanks. 1986 was the same year the Bamberger's name was phased out and replaced by Macy's, and I believe the red star now in the logo (which has otherwise stayed the same) was added in 2006 to commemorate what I call "the merger to end all mergers" in the traditional department store field.

I would be SHOCKED if a Verizon and AT&T Store opened on this corner. Let's hope for something better.

Indigo Hotel at 1218 Chestnut was probably shot down, but I'm not sure. Anyway, will the Wine & Spirits SuperStore there ever get the new treatment like the 2040 Market location, which moved from 1913 Walnut (now Banana Republic Outlet)?

Does anyone know if this building demolition on the south side of Market Street has to do with future retail?

I forgot which block it was on. I do know it's directly across from the curved "Pennsylvania Convention Center" sign.

As for other retail, I didn't fully realize how much of the Gallery Mall is gone. The shining example had to be the now-former food court. Except for a lone McDonald's, the food court is completely...GONE!

Thank GOD. That place was home to fights all the time between unbelievably trashy people.

That demolition is for a new development called "East Market." The first phase will include a 21 floor, 322 unit luxury apartment highrise and 160,000 square feet of retail.

As for the Gallery Mall, it is being emptied out by PREIT who is planning a complete redevelopment of the mall to bring in some higher end tenants:
