A lot of the stores in the inner ring suburbs don't have gas and are not necessarily in an area that would easily host a super wawa with pumps in the near vicinity. For example, the one on Limekiln Pike in Glenside - it's always busy and there doesn't seem to be a likely site large enough for a super within a mile or so. Hard to see them closing it without having to take over multiple sites.
What can you possibly dislike about Wawas?

Insufficient and imo unsafe parking at a number of locations, for one. I also feel that they play fast and loose around zoning issues in some communities.

I've give you a for instance.. The Wawa at Tyson and Brous. For years the non gas Wawa was packed to the max. Many years. Way too small for gas. A Mercury dealershop closed up around the corner and Wawa bought that property and put in a gas Wawa and soon after the old non gas Wawa closed its doors. So it don't have to be right next to the existing Wawa to open a super Wawa.

The number one thing that college kids miss when they go out of the area is Wawa.

More than their parents, friends and their dog.

That tells you everything you need to know.

BTW....Wawa is NEVER empty.

I feel like people are so enthralled with Wawa here because it's local and because your choices are mostly limited to Wawa and 7-Eleven. Growing up we had Wawa, 7-11, Quick Check, Cumberland Farms, Welsh Farms, Krauszers, and almost as many locally owned places. Wawa never stood out as being exceptional.

No, that Wawa has been there for at least 8 years. That's how long i've been using their ATM.

They've gotten a lot more strategic about their city locations. In the last 10 years, that i've noticed, they've closed the one around 15th & Locust, the one at 2nd & Christian and the one at 8th & Bainbridge.

The distinguishing thing about Wawas for ME was that it was a place you where you could always get an actual passable hoagie 24 hours a day, made by someone who knew what that was. And that they used to have many more city locations. Any 24 hour places where you could get a decent bite to eat late at night were always a rarity in Philly, center city included, and so Wawa was always there to fill that void.

Now, as they've been turning more and more into a generic roadside gas station convenience store chain, I'm a little irritated with the "do it yourself" touchscreen hoagie system Wawa has where you're prompted to do things like "toast" and "add bacon" to your hoagie as if that was something that a sane hoagie-seeker would do.

For the most part, their pretzels are terrible. I remember about 5-6 years ago Philadelphia Magazine gave them a "Worst of Philly" award for their pretzels. I felt vindicated; finally I wasn't the only one who realized that their pretzels were no good.

I actually think they have gotten somewhat better since then but they cannot compete with the soft pretzel places that are popping up all over the 'burbs.

They're not a pretzel joint.

They used to carry real pretzels, but they just couldn't keep them fresh and they always got stale & dried out; so they started with the thing of making their own (which were/are awful).
