I'm starting a job in King of Prussia (Gulph Mills specifically) in July and was wondering if anyone had experience making the commute from the city (University City, maybe Art Museum) up to KoP, and back in to the city in the eve. I've heard conflicting reports about the traffic on 76, as well as Lancaster Ave. Does anyone have an idea of how long this commute would actually take if leaving around 7am?

The alternatives would be:

1. Take a bus or train to 69th Street Terminal, where I'd catch the Norristown Limited train to the Gulph Mills Station, which is about 1 mile from my office. Ideally I might park a car there at the station, although I've also heard that this lot is often full. Not sure how long this commute would take either, including walking from apartment to station to another train, and then Gulph Mills Station to office.

2. Live closer to KoP, although I was hoping to live in or close to an "urban" environment- jazz clubs, dance clubs, bars that aren't full of frat dudes. Not sure how far outside of CC one could live before these things become out of reach.

Thanks

I can't speak from experience about a driving commute although as King of Prussia is the biggest job center in the region, a "reverse" commute from the city is likely to offer much relief.

Your 1) is a good idea, although you may want to look into whether there is a bus that would take you that last mile to your employer.

Regarding 2), your best option might be Conshohocken. It's essentially a bar scene for younger professionals but it may tie you over until the weekend. Manayunk would be a distant second from your perspective as the "post-frat" crowd would be in attendance.

If you can find a decent place within walking distance of 34th/40th/46th St. Stations on the El I would do that. Take the El to 69th St. (~10 mins) 3 or 4 mins to transfer to the NHSL to Gulph Mills (~16 mins on an express) for about a half hour total.

Not sure where your workplace is but there are 4 connecting buses at Gulph Mills so if it's just a mile it's probably not much more than an extra 10 minutes to transfer and get to your destination.
