Hey all...moving back to center city in the Rittenhouse area and bringing my car this time around. I am in the process of changing my NC tags over to PA so I can obtain a parking permit, but until then, I am going to have to take my chances on the street and/or use the garages in the evening when it isn't so $$$. Question is, are there any streets outside of Rittenhouse where the parking Nazi's may not notice me for a night or two? If I do get a ticket for parking, what can I expect to pay in fines? I don't want to risk being towed.

Thanks!

D

Have fun at the PPA lot picking up your towed car. Maybe you will get to be on Parking Wars!

It gets very complicated. Everything on and north of South Street is metered. Some spaces are metered 24 hours a day and some will let you park free after 8 or 9 PM but you have to be out early in the morning. You have to cruse block by block and check the signs. The few spots that let you park over night fill up early and fast so it's a little like playing the lottery.

There must be some streets in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood that don't have permit parking if you don't mind leaving it 15 minutes or so away by foot. Maybe someone here will know...

It's all permit parking. Meters above Bainbrige and just time limits below that.

probably would be cheaper to just rent a spot in a garage for a month until you get your tags. Some places may even give you a deal on a weekly rate so you don't have to commit to a monthly fee. Best thing is to go into a local garage and ask the attendants. Rather then deal with having to drive around. plus a monthly rate will be cheaper then getting towed.

If you don't mind the hassle, there are spots in grad hospital that aren't metered/permitted at night but you have to be out by...7? 6? I forget. From the South St bridge to 25th on South St, spots between 25th to 20th and Pine to Bainbridge. I used to live on 24th and South and I did find parking at night but I was out early. It's hell sometimes to find spots, however, and PPA basically camps out here in force so 1 second over the limit and you'll have a ticket.

The Parking Authority enforcers (aka Meter Maids) in Philly are voracious!

There is no city in the world where you are more likely to be ticketed.

Mark my words!

If all the departments of government were as efficient as PPA, Philly would be an urban paradise.
