It's nice for you certain people, who love to deal with it. But coming from orlando philly most certainly closes quite a lot of itself down pretty quick. While walking around at 6-8 we came across starbucks (on market street) and dunkin donut's which were closed. We got kicked out of liberty place early. Almost the whole experience was "I can't believe it's closing so early, in ERIE things don't close this early...".

And this isn't a problem just in philly, the whole area is like this. I look up coffee shops and they close at 5pm on the weekend. KOP is almost all shutdown at 8 to 9 pm ON THE WEEKEND. Did you know that the KOP mall has the most retail sqft in the country? I have to take off work to grocery shop (leaving at 5:30 means taking off work).

Don't know where the hell you are going. All grocery stores I have been around are open 24 hours a day. All coffee shops I pass are always open until 10 or 11 at night. All restaurants are always open until 11 at night... most of them even later. Bars are open until mostly 2am.. but there are a couple dozen open until 4am. I don't think you're looking hard enough... and since you were on Market street nonetheless, most of Market Street IS A BUSINESS DISTRICT, that caters to the BUSINESS CLASS who are all gone by 6pm and not there on the weekends. You want something to do later? Head south of Market Street into Rittenhouse or Wash West or Society Hill... tons to do there. Or head over to Old City... or Northern Liberties, or UCity, or South Philadelphia, or Manayunk, or Chestnut Hill. There is a ton to do... idk where you are looking.

I'm calling BS on this one. I've never seen a normal grocery store closed before 10 and there are 24 hour options.

And KOP is open till 9 every day except Sunday. That's about average for a mall. Outside of Christmas season, all malls shut down at 9 or 9:30.

this might be the single most ridiculous statement I've ever seen on CD. pentagon city mall closes at 930 pm, a half hour AFTER KoP. target on city line closes at 11 pm, whole food on callowhill at 10 pm, super fresh on south at 11 pm.

I think you might have your regions mixed up, says the Northern Virginia resident.

The Market Street East/Convention Center is definitely dead at night. As suggested, you could have walked a couple blocks north to Chinatown. Several blocks away in Old City (around 4th and Market) there is a collection of restaurants to choose from. If you had walked one block west or south of Liberty Place's corner at 17th and Chestnut, you would have seen even more options. Unfortunately, you were just on the fringes of a dead zone.

^^ As Tone said. You were either A. in the convention center area/ Market East which is DEFINITELY dead at night, or you were in Market West/ Penn Center which is a business district and closes down after 6pm when all the businessmen go home. Next time head to one of the dozen other areas listed for nightlife and options later than you experienced.
