Looks like Philadelphia will add Atlantic County and Cape May County back to it's area.

Also, Kent County, DE will be added to the area. The CSA for Philadelphia will be over 7 million and we officially have beaches again within out area.

Looks like my post in that thread, I could recognize it because I highlighted in red all the new areas.

There's an update though, that population is now outdated.

Here's the first 60 I put together.

You know I've been to Portland and in no way, shape, or form does it feel like a place of 3 million. Same could be said of Washington DC and Boston too.

Yeah, I doubt commuting patterns have changed that drastically over the past ten years. The Census Bureau probably just loosened the necessary minimum CSA thresholds. I patiently await the day the whole Northeast/Mid-Atlantic seaboard is united under one grand title. Bostyorkadelphiamoreton, anyone?

Basically they made it more lax to absorb bedroom communities in which case places like Hagerstown, Stockton, Allentown are but very difficult to combine large metropolitans. Now for that we need several hundred thousand more commuters because the core county rule is no more but instead like an "area to area" thing.

This is what 60 years of the world's most rapid suburbanization has brought us from 1950-present day. Now we have business parks in outlying podunks calling the shots and spreading us across horizons.

That said, they continue to redefine each decade and become more lax yet backhanded manner more restrictive as well.

I find it absurd that Elkton MD and Dover Del are part of the Philly csma but Trenton is not. Took me less than 15 minutes to get to Trenton from Philly yesterday, made it to Princeton in 25 minutes.

Elkton MD is linked to Wilmington which is linked to Philly. However, the rural area of Cecil County, which makes up more percentage of people actually than Elkton, gets unnecessarily involved. But they have to be put somewhere I guess.

Princeton takes longer than 25 minutes from most of Philly and the region. You must have been speeding or something. Anyways, most that live there associate themselves with areas in the New York region, so it's somewhat understandable.

Overall, it was a good thing AC and Cape May county didn't get associated with NY, but that it was associated with Philly.

I suppose Lancaster Co., PA could be associated one day with Philadelphia, and York Co., PA with Baltimore-DC, creating even more hyper CSAs.

The same could be said for extremely northern Kent County. I'm sure these days some folks from Smyrna trek into Wilmington for work. But aside from Dover (which is really just a burgeoning town), the bulk of Kent County is rural. I hardly see this as an extension of Philly's influence or urbanity:
