Right! Starbucks grew out of control and now many of their stores just cannabalize one another.

Starbucks is sooo 90's haha jk. I usually make my own coffee or go to the new Wired Beans around the corner from my house.

I go to Starbucks but I also go to the independent coffee shops in the neighborhood.

If you're in Roxborough be sure to visit Crossroads Coffee. They've been in business since 2006 and serve breakfast and lunch. Also they have muffins and other baked goods that are delicious. However, they're most famous for the ricotta cookies.

I have no idea what is considered a lot or a little when it comes to Starbucks but you are asking because you think Philly is an affordable city where you can buy a house. You are correct about that. Most of the population outside Center City and maybe Chestnut Hill are working class if not poor and they are very value conscious. Starbucks is a wasteful and extravagant financial hit for those folks. They are probably getting their very delicious coffee at Dunkin Donuts or Wawa for a third of the price.
I'll be more polite this time. Did you honestly just say everything outside of Center City and Chestnut Hill is poor or working class? That is absurd

Summerism I have never known you to be impolite. Over the top maybe but never impolite. Except maybe with frank, but that's another topic. LOL
I didn't say everything, I said most and I stand by that. Think about it. Of course the working class far outnumber the poor, Unfortunetly not as much as they out number the rich. That is one advantage to living in Philly. The working class can live quite well here.

Wikipedia

Working class (or lower class, labouring class, sometimes proletariat) is a term used in the social sciences and in ordinary conversation to describe those employed in lower tier jobs (as measured by skill, education and lower incomes), often extending to those in unemployment or otherwise possessing below-average incomes. Working classes are mainly found in industrialized economies and in urban areas of non-industrialized economies.
In Marxist theory and socialist literature, working class is often used synonymously with the term proletariat, and includes all those who expend either mental or physical labor to produce economic value, or wealth in non-academic terms. It thus includes both lower-class workers and middle class workers, including knowledge workers and white collar workers who work for a salary

Rumor on Sansom St btwn 15th & 16th on Friday and Saturday nights has mashup/Top40 in the main room, and 'radio-friendly' house in the back room. There's usually a line by 11pm, so I would get there early. cover is $20 (i think?). There's a dress code, so dont show up in jeans, a tee, and sneakers.

Ten Six Club (the old Walnut Room) on Walnut btwn 17th & 18th has hip-hop/Top40 on the weekends. There was no cover last time I went, but it depends on the night.

Whisper, Zee Bar, Voyeur are the after-hour spots (open until 3:30am) and there's usually a $20+ cover. Whisper has one room (top40/mashup), Zee Bar has 3, Voyeur also has 3 rooms.

If you're into house music, the Shakedown (Shakedown Events / Shakedown / Worship Recordings) is every month, usually at the Barbary. The Sundae outdoor parties will be starting up again in a few months (Sundae Philadelphia)

For less mainstream stuff, there are also events at Underground Arts, the Boom Room, KungFu Necktie, Arts Garage.

I know what the working class is, neither did I say it was bad... but people tend to associate the "Working Class" as a peg lower than "the middle class" If you know what I mean ... but you are over generalizing the city.

Obviously there are wealthy in Center City and Chestnut Hill, but there are also wealthy in:

Graduate Hospital
Bella Vista
Queen Village
Hawthorne
Fairmount
Spring Garden
Northern Liberties
Spruce Hill
Wynnefield
Wynnefield Heights
Overbrook Park
East Mt. Airy
West Mt. Airy
Fox Chase and some other sections of the Northeast

Although Center City and Chestnut Hill are the highest concentration, they are not the only sections.
