Hi,

I along with one of my friends would be joining SAP Americas Headquarter based at Newtown Square. I am looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom cheap/ moderately priced apartments near SAP office. What are the neighborhoods in Newtown which are safe, close to SAP and have easy access to public transport? It will be great if you can help me spot the areas/ apartments.

Thanks!

Considering that it's hiring season, lots of people will have same question (including me)

Media is a charming and fun little Borough with a train station in town. You won't be able to take the train to work, as there are no stations in Newtown Square, but the drive isn't a far one--probably no more than 20-25 minutes during rush hour. You could try living in the city as well, but that would make for a hell of a slog. You could live in Grad Hospital close to 76 and take the absurdly long (~27ish mile) but counter-intuitively faster 291/95/476 route in under an hour, bypassing most of PA-3.

I would second Media and also add the West Chester/East Goshen/West Goshen area on Rt 3. Its a very pleasant 10-15 minute commute to SAP.

Good luck. Theres not much crime around Newtown or media/West Chester to worry about.

In addition to Media and West Chester, a little north on Rte 252 to Paoli/Berwyn is a nice area, which would also be about 15 minutes away or so. There are no bad towns to look in close to Newtown Square. Rte 3 near West Chester has lots of apartment complexes so I'm sure you could find something there.

Are you looking to be near public transportation to get to work or to get other places? There is a bus along Rte 3 that probably services SAP, but that limits your apartment options.

Thanks HeavenWood ,rainrock & Saggitarianamit!
@HeavenWood & @rainrock
I would be on public transport for initial few days till I get a car.
Are their any direct public transport buses from West Chester/East Goshen/West Goshen area on Rt 3 to SAP Office?
Also what could be the monthly rent for 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in those areas? I am looking for a decent moderately priced apt?

@scosm: Thanks for reply. Yeah, I am looking to be close to public transport stop to commute to work, may be for initial few days. What could be ideal rent for an either 1 or 2 bedroom apt in Newtown Square? I check out some deals on rent.com and they look over rated to me.

For public transportation check out Septa's website. I believe there is a route that runs from West Chester University all the way east to 69th Street in Upper Darby.

There should also be a bus running from Media to newtown Square via rt 252

Ive never been on the SAP campus but its right on RT 3, not sure if the bus goes into SAP , if not its very short walk from one of the stops.

For a nicer 1 2 BR apartment/townhomes you are probably looking at $1200 on up.

SAP is surrounded by money this isnt really the area for modest priced apts. This area is noted for sprawling estates. The Dupont Estate is right near SAP. The guy who started QVC sold his 50 acre estate to the guy who owns The Franklin Mint who has since sold it to a developer, its now a community of high end homes that start at $2.5 M .This is right behind SAP. Not sure if you are a baseball fan but Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels live about 1 mile from SAP. Between the 2 of them they have earned in the range of $300 M bucks.

Out West Chester way you are probably looking at rent at about $1000 for your avg apartment, and that may be conservative. That being said I'm Sure you can find cheaper if you do your homework.

West Chester is 4 or 5 miles west of SAP if you go a couple miles east you will find some apts on RT 3 which I guess is considered Havertown or Llanerch Broomall.

This area will be a little cheaper. Perhaps rents in the $700-$800 range.

I agree with rainrock, though I don't know what your spending budget is. However, that E&W Goshen area along rt. 3 (West Chester Pike) seems to be loaded with townhomes, condos and probably apartments. It's a nice, clean area with good shopping and a short ride to both Media and West Chester boroughs. Very safe areas.

I believe the Route 104 bus will be your best - if not only - public transit option. Anywhere along the line is fine to live although connecting at Upper Darby, which has seen better days, would be the longest commute.
