We should also focus in on shootings, stabbings and beatings using an instrument where the victim survived. I'd bet there's a lot more 'failed' attempts at murder than actual murders.
One of the largest improvements in murder rates stems from better police response time and on-scene medics saving lives. It's a grim story at a higher level because it indicates that murderous violence has not declined as much as we would like to believe.

No. You are far more likely to be raped by someone you know. The whole "stranger danger jumping out of the bushes" kind of rape is actually not all that common.

Very nice interactive tool to play around with the crime data per district from 2006-2016. Crime in the city has dropped by 23% in the last decade, and it has been a decrease in nearly every section of the city.

Need to do more to have it continue to go down.

As usual, your reading comprehension failed ... random rapes are more common than random murders.

The Philadelphia Housing Authority sees a one year 41% reduction in crime after introducing resident officers: PHA residents become PHA cops amid 41% drop in Philly public housing crime

Very good news. This seems like an initiative that could be copied in part across other high crime areas in the city.

The shop owner got it half right ... The capper to the madness was when the locals made a mad dash for the cash the robber dropped on the sidewalk.
A fun story all the way around.

From the comments section:
"This article is nothing but a lie. The crime rates haven't gone down, they are just under reported because the officers are tired of being mistreated and abused by the unqualified disgruntled command staff and being WAY under paid so they refuse to do proactive work. As for Officer gallashaw doing more work? Well that's one hell of a lie! If doing more work is playing on her phone all day and bagging other officers with her jobs then yup she gets that award. What's funny here is that not one white officer is mentioned in this article but they account for 99% for the activity and arrest that are generated." I'm sure I'll be labeled as a racist for that comment" As for the other "residents" well let's see, one has been arrested, another is out of work having baby #5 and another is never on time for work and then sleeps while at work."

Summerdale (Lower NE Philadelphia):

I don't know ... in my unvarnished opinion he was most likely involved in some sort of nefarious activity to just get shot in the back like that by a 'friend's' acquaintance.
On the other hand, it may have been as simple as the victim saying something 'disrespectful.'
