As much as some would have us believe that all these murders are drug-related, a lot aren't.

The big mouths, confrontational personalities and the inability to mind one's business also get people killed.
Some like to interject themselves into situations that have nothing to do with them (I've seen it a lot) ... they seem to thrive on drama.

Some just can't let things go.

True all dat.

Some of that also stems from a misguided idea of what constitutes manhood and an overly sensitive sense of respect and honor. You also find this in the "hillbilly" cultures of Appalachia.

Which is ironic since that type of neighborhood, minding your business is indoctrinated since birth; Street rule #1.

We had a PSA meeting last week and one of my neighbors attended. Crime continues to be down to near-record lows in my neighborhood. No burglaries, thefts, or anything to report. Pretty wild for a neighborhood of 12,000 people in "Killadelphia".

That only applies to talking to the police.

That's right.

I've also seen where thug-types get themselves involved in a confrontation that has nothing to do with them, just random strangers. I can see why there's so many shootings in certain neighborhoods.

Like the one in Rittenhouse where the white guy and black guy were arguing over a car blocking a street and the delivery guy just had to get himself involved.

I still have no idea how that turd got away with murder ...

When will they come down hard on these criminals?

I hate local media always using shock value titles in notoriously violent neighborhoods.

"SHOCKING NEWS: A man was fatally struck by gunfire in the Kensington section" as if it isn't the norm in that area and we're not desensitized to it already.

It would be noteworthy if they went a night without a shooting or it happened in Chestnut Hill or something.

I knew the white guy, who was an up-and-coming developer. About a week or two before his untimely and unfortunate demise, we had had lunch during which time he offered me some advice for handling my finances (which I didn't then implement but did explore).

I consider it noteworthy that the district City Council member representing the district he lived in, who has been a noted critic of the real estate broker-developer responsible for much of the "gentrification" taking place in Point Breeze*, had nothing but praise for this fellow, who he also knew, after his murder.

*You may recall that someone torched a townhouse development that guy was building not far from where the murdered developer lived.
