I might be moving to broad and federal but I want to know if it's safe?

background information I'm already from philly and have walked around at night in worse areas at night so I know how to act who not to look at and in general how not to be a target.

But what I want to know is how does the crime here compare to queen village, bella vista, or graduate hospital?

Is it too close to point breeze which i have walked through at day and night and eventho i wasn't scared I don't want to live in a neighborhood like that so I would like to know if Broad and Federal is different enough?

One time at about 7 or 8 but it was winter so it was dark out I was walking down 12th and had just passed washington and saw a couple guys breaking into a car with a crowbar and it didn't seem to bother them when me and my friends walked by which gets me wondering are there a lot of breakins in the neighborhood?

I am also worried will my mom who's from a rich suburb of hartford but does like living in the city now but can get scared somewhat easily like it?

breaking into a car with a crowbar? Like smashing out the window? And you didn't call the police?

You'll be fine. It is an up and coming area. To the East you have Passyunk Square and to the West you have Newbold.

Looks like you'll be living in Newbold (according to Wikipedia: Broad to 18th, Washington to Wolf)...which is part of a larger neighborhood known as Point Breeze. As Summers said, it's an up and coming area, but still a little rough around the edges.

There appear to be two civic groups in the area...websites are below:

Newbold Neighbors Association - Civic and Community Group invested in the future of South Philadelphia

Newbold Civic Association

With the gentrification of this neighborhood have come some nice little restaurants. I can personally recommend the South Philadelphia Taproom, but I've also heard good things about the American Sardine Bar and Breezy's Cafe.

Good luck!
