It is under a new name now or is the place closed down completely? I thought that was one of the bright spots of center city and shocked to hear it's no longer open.

you thought champions was one of the bright spots? that explains a lot, obviously most people didn't agree with you which is why they didn't patronize that garbage establishment.

What was wrong with it? I remember big screen TV with the games on it, nice atmosphere and good food?

Was never a fan of Champions. There are tons of better options to watch a game and drink some beers in the area. Just walk a few blocks south and you'll find some.

It was a generic probably misguided concept from the start. As a neutral/non Philadelphia sports bar I guess I could see the logic as its right next to all the hotels but most outsiders/visitors apparently would rather watch a game at their hotel bar/lobby. This place never had a chance with the locals.

Market East needs massive upgrades and whole new approach. Its the rusty chain link that has deteriorated , corroded and snapped. It NOT a recent thing it snapped like 50 years ago and has never been fixed. The historic area, Museum area, corporate center, incredible neighborhoods like Rittenhouse Society Hill have all evolved and are now top notch and cohesive except for this integral part in the middle- wretched Market East.

Funny situation on facebook last night.

I posted this in my status..........."My cable is back on and if it goes out I will have to watch the game at champions"

A friend response..........."Well i really hope your cable doesn't go out because Champions has been closed for 2 years"

LOL
