I had a previous post about Philly suburbs but am wondering if staying more to the west would be better. Husband is planning on commuting for the time being (1.5 hours each way). We have lived in york our whole lives so we aren't quick to up and relocate although the thought is becoming more appealing. We seem to be able to get a lot more for our housing money here in york so it is making it hard to find a good place to go. We live in a 7 year old $300,000 home now and are looking to not pay any more. Good schools and a friendly, community feel are most important. Also looking for a place to live with less crime. I have two kids 10 and 12. Hubby will have a company vehicle so that makes commuting better money wise. 30 minutes would be ideal but I would go 45 for the right place. My focus was on Montgomery County but am open to anything. I work for a school district and have summers off so we like to have things to do and a nice community pool to join. I would like a nice quaint downtown. Hubby travels a lot so I want things to entertain us especially with not knowing anyone.

So we want to own a house. 1/4 to 1/2 acre is fine. I want to be within 15 minutes to grocery stores etc. I was focused on PA burbs because I thought it would be cheaper but am not opposed to NJ.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Check out Owen J Roberts and Spring-Ford schoold districts outside of Pottstown. Also maybe Reading suburbs which I assume would be cheaper by may be too far - Wyomissing, West Lawn, etc (Wilson and Wyomissing School Districts). You are more likely to find what you want in your price range in those areas than the ones closer to philly mentioned in the other thread.

Default Check out Boyertown

I think the perfect spot for you would be the Boyertown area. Downtown Boyertown is REALLY charming and has tons of pride. The Boyertown School District is VERY good (heck they even have their own planetarium) and the Boyertown Bears American Legion team has been national champs and they are really supported by the community.

If you stay in Berks County you'll probably find your car insurance and taxes are less than Montgomery County and you will be able to find a comparable house to your home in York. There are grocery stores and the normal American chain stores in shopping centers along Route 100, but you are minutes to farm country (kinda like York County in that way).

Best of luck in your home search. Go to realtor.com and put in Boyertown and you'll get the borough plus the vicinity. I hope your husband doesn't have to endure the long commute for long - that is soul crushing!
