Btw those low-rise subsidized houses in Southwark are not PHA, they're privately managed by a company from New Jersey.

you are not the victim of a crack epedemic, whenever a community is more in sympathy with evil that against it, the entire barrel of apples go bad. this has happened to many. the victim is the good people. but being good is not enough, evil must be resisted. extreme tolerance is the friend of evil. it often masquarades as kindness but in reality is nothing but cowardice. too often our government punishes us for resisting evil.

That is an interesting take Huckleberry. I like it.

The only high rise projects I know of are the ones down in Grays Ferry south of Snyder and west of 25th. I've heard they are pretty damn rough...seen at least a few murders being reported as coming out of there.

From what I gather Kensington was never really a "nice" neighborhood but it certainly didn't come without its redeeming qualities until the late 80's-early 90's when there was generally a mass exodus of its lower-middle/working class families to other parts of the city because of rising crime, racial tension and a general lack of jobs. After that the neighborhood went spiraling downward as prostitution, drug abuse, and homelessness became a more and more visible issue in the neighborhood...and who wants to raise a family/live in a neighborhood like that? But luckily Kensington has some great "bones" you could call them with really good access to public transportation, large commercial corridor and improving neighborhoods to the south and west. Certainly a long way to go...Kensington itself looks like zombie land at this point.

Uptown theater

You'll have to scroll down on the link to see the photos of them.

(The Ray Rosen Projects...Lived there for one year as a child and the experience gave me nightmares for at least 3 or 4 years after moving.

There were other, the Mid Town high rises (Better Known As The 46th St Projects) in Mil Creek, also the 3 high rises by the El at 46th & Market St. Even East Falls Had a few HUGE towers. There were 3 towers right off of 13th & South St where the knuckleheads from that place used to run out and snatch people's jewelry then retreat back to that armed fortress.

your point? it was notorious for drug dealings and shootings.
I lost a classmate back in august of 1990 because he rode his bike down there looking to score some drugs.
