Well born and raise in Philly I can tell you Philly is a great place to live i moved and i visit my mom often I did not move because Philly was horrible I just like to explore and see other places and now I'm planning either to relocate to Philly again or else where we have not made our minds up yet Philly is how you take it as for up and coming it always has been for things to do there is plenty you just have to look as of transit you can catch the bus almost everywhere car is not a must like in some cities or town weather is ok not bad people are friendly if there from Philly if there out of town-ers that moved to Philly there not the greatest So Philly is a great place to live depends what you like what you look for plenty of lovely places to live again depends what you want in a neighborhood . We have ghettos like every city ,state or town and crime is bad to some people but they also have to remember it is a big city there are smaller towns in other states that are way worst . Trust me I know I live in a crime filled city and I always take crime however you can not avoid crime in no city .So If you have a job opportunity and looking to have fun I wouldn't mind trying Philly out you might actually love it .Just remember this the crime the cost of living rental are high everywhere even in the town that supposedly don't have crime have it and rent everywhere is sky rockets just take the chance and see if you like it if not then look else where that's how I do it you can not be afraid of trying things out. Or because of what people say because there are a lot of people who dislike a lot of states for there own reason but it doesn't mean your not going to like it you have to try it yourself that's what I have learned from the couple moves I have done I know what I'm looking for and if it make you happy or you like something about the city go for it .

Positives: Lovely architecture, great restaurants, art and science museums, historical sites

Negative: the PIGS in North Philly who are (continually) featured on Animal Cops Philadelphia for abusing and neglecting their pets to an utterly criminal, shocking and psychotic degree. I could cheerully watch them fry!

84% for Obama, but still philly is segregated by race, economics, ethnicity and the people still are quite intolerant and racist on the street--i know i live downtown as an AA and get it all the time. they voted against bush and against the last 8 years, but most whites or most blacks are not running towards each other to date, mate or marry and or move next to one another-so racism is still a major issue even in most democratically run cities.

look at the homeless and poverty levels in most big cities run ironically by liberals and democrats. this post wasnt to be political but using th3e 84% of obama was really laughable. one full day after his inuaguration, and philly is back to normal
