Hi everyone! I used to have an account on here a few years ago but I can't remember my login info! Oh well. Anyway, maybe someone can help me out.

I'm a 23 year old female coming from South Jersey, outside of/in between Atlantic City and Ocean City. I've been coming to Philly my entire life, I just haven't lived there yet. I plan on attending college (hopefully) at some point but would like to establish residency first. How long does that generally take in PA, anyway? School isn't the only reason for the move, I also just love the city and want to experience it for real instead of just visiting. I hold a full time job that gives me the freedom to work remotely (I'm a graphic/advert/web designer for a few newspapers), so I'm capable of moving whenever I find a place to live. I have a couple of friends who have offered their homes to me, which at first was the plan, but I'm thinking I should find my own place for now. I've been living with other people since high school and I would like a little time to myself for a while.

I'm looking to rent. I'm open to apartments, houses, cohousing, lofts, studios... Anything under $900 (this is including utilities). I can afford more than that, but would like to play it safe my first year. It can be in a hi-rise or a walk up, I don't mind.

I am not married, nor do I plan on having children any time soon. I do have a boyfriend, but he is staying in NJ for now. I have a kitty child who hangs out with me inside. I could do with or without a yard, although it would be nice. I do plan on selling my car before coming to the city so I would like to be in an area where I can either walk/ride my bike to everything or get to public trans somewhat easily. Eventually I'd like to try to get into Tyler (hence the residency bit, in-state tuition is quite "cheap" [for an art school]) so if I can get to the BSL without there being a huge process to get to it, I'll be good to go.

As for bustling activity versus calm and quiet, I guess somewhere in the middle? If that's possible? I'm not a clubbing kind of girl at all but I do love music and going to shows, and I enjoy having a drink once in a while. I guess I'm also a bit of a foodie. I don't judge people by their age/race/religion/sexual pref., and am pretty street smart. As long as I'm not in a place where I have to have bars on my windows, I'll be happy.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Sorry I wrote so much! Thanks in advance!

Maybe some neighborhood in Center City? You don't have to commute anywhere, offers pretty good access to NJ, nightlife, and easy access to the various parts of the city if you're looking for restaurants or shows in S. Philly, W. Philly, etc. If you are looking at Tyler, maybe something on the northern side of Center City for future commute? I like SW Center City around the old graduate hospital or whatever they call that area now for a nice mix of calm/bustle and bustle.

I'm not sure what the price range is though in CC. Perhaps Fishtown and those nighborhoods north along the Delaware river would be cheaper?

CC and Fishtown have both been on my list of possibilities! But with my price range and only hunting online thus far, I'm coming across a lot of places that would only be affordable it seems by having a roommate. Lots of places for $900 and under, but rare to also include utilities. I think I may have to schedule off for a couple of days sometime soon and hunt on foot.

I found Robin's Apartments on Chestnut after a bit more browsing online today. Has anyone rented from them before?

$900 in at least studio can get you nearly anywhere. If you can I'd recommend getting in to or close to ritten house. Since you are in the tech area and work as a kind of a freelancer I would recommend going to a philly tech meetup - Philly Tech Meetup (Philadelphia, PA) - Meetup .
