There's some stuff going on in Collingswood/Westmont. Nothing in comparison to the hip Philly neighborhoods but there's definitely a young person's contingent by virtue of the fact that not everyone wants to make the commute/lose money to the wage tax. I'd probably opt for somewhere around Society Hill myself, but Collingswood/Westmont would hardly be illogical choices.

People should just take Collingswood/Westmont for what they are: are they bustling, young, single, 20-30 something oriented inner-city neighborhood? No. Are they nice semi-urban alternatives that have a bit to offer for people from all age groups? Most definitely.

Doesn't Collingswood have a rather large gay population? (Not that there's anything wrong with that).

Yes, but it's far and away from being exclusively LGBT.
