Would the cheltenham mall be a safe place for a tiny 18 year old girl to work? I would be taking public transportation from my school which is about 10 mins away. I'm comfortable being in the city I just wanted to make sure this wasn't a dangerous area. Thanks!

I used to live in the area and went to that mall frequently... definitely in a good area... you should be more than ok.

It's an ok area. I pass through there often and stop in the Target on occasion, very clean store. I know a few people that live in Lynnewood Gardens which is right next to the mall. At one time those apartments were notorious for crime but have since been cleaned up. A lot of college students living there from Arcadia, Temple and LaSalle.

In spite of my general distaste for the area I will go ahead and say it is probably safe for you. While there are plenty of shady folks wandering around there you will also meet many good folks who would come to your aid if you let out a good scream or got in trouble. Keep your street smarts sharpened however.

I was in there a little more than a year ago and surprised it did not close with all the empty stores. I stop in the ShopRite on the way home occasionally and it seems fine.

Shoprite and Home Depot keep it alive because neither store has any close by competition.
